About the adventure
Look, prospective players, I'm going to shoot you straight: I love Castlevania and I love Curse of Strahd. Think of all the horror and survival elements of Barovia but with Ravenloft reimagined as Dracula's Castle from the Castlevania games. A confusing mega-dungeon that twists and turns, with teleporters that bring you not only to entirely new secitons but also different planes where the same rooms exist but are completely shifted to fit their new realms. A castle filled with mythical creatures that, when defeated, give the players extra traversal abilities that they can use to access areas that they thought were impossible to get to before. I want to make that a reality. I want to make D&D Double Jump a reality. All the depth of the storytelling of the module mashed with the traversal, exploration, combat and general awesomeness of gamings' most beloved spooky castle. That's what I want to provide, and I want you to be along for the ride. I reckon we'll be on to something really special and different from most other Strahd campaigns out there. But of course, before the castle, there is Death House. You awake, dazed, marbled floor pressed against your face. Your head is pounding something fierce and your first instinct, the one that tells you to massage your temple, transports you immediately to something horrible. Is it a memory? No, not quite. A memory would be precise, whatever mysterious quality to it only a barrier to be pierced in order to see it in its totality. There's no barrier to overcome here. No, not at all. This is an overwhelming feeling of dread that drowns you, horrendous, playful, creeping beyond even the darkest depths of disgust and contempt. You try to rationalize it, but then you find you're looking at a mirror. Your reflection. You point at it aggressively. You did this, you did it to them and to yourself. You're to blame, you're... 'The Guest' a voice clamors, filling every one of your senses fully. The scent of roses and the caress of cold yet loving hands runs through your face. You smile with an absent mind - all is well here, all will always be well if the voice comes back. And it does... As it will again, and again, and again, for this is how it always starts, and you are always welcome. He sees you, hears you and loves you, say thankya. Does so, very well.

About me
Howdys and Salutations! I've been playing D&D since the death throes of 3.5, skipped 4th entirely after a break and settled right nicely in the DM chair for 5e ever since Tyranny of Dragons dropped. I've ran and finished multiple online and in-person campaigns, often ending around tier 3 play (level 14). To get a good picture of what my games look like, imagine fun as a core concept — that's me! All I do is in the name of the collective fun for the whole table. I view TTRPGS in essence as an exercise to break out from constrained systems to do ridiculous stuff like, oh, I dunno, befriending the green dragon in Thundertree through carefully and tactfully putting the cursed helm of opposite alignment on it — he became a real softie after that! One rule I always abide by - mistakes, of any kind, are an opportunity to be creative and to do something fun and often hilarious. You regret your frail level 1 PC ran confidently into a pack of goblins, rolling poorly on that persuasion check? No problem. This does not mean death. Well, not necessarily anyway. It might, but it might also be another opportunity to pitch them that lucrative moonshine business you've been going on and on about lately. I wouldn't blame you, it's a neat idea. Anyways, happy to share the wonders of RPGs with you and create lasting memories that'll hopefully be sung about for years to come. Toodly-Doodly! (It's 'see you soon' in goblin, I promise.)
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
All of this will be discussed in our 1to1 but for this campaign specifically I should immediately mention two things: 1. Only Humans are allowed as a species for character creation. 2. We are using 2024 rules only, with a preference towards all the content within the PHB. I want to get more familiar with them, so I encourage my players to use them almost exclusively with few exceptions. Finally, I employ some specific homebrew rules in this game to enhance the environment as much as possible. These include but are not limited to changes to Darkvision and Light Perception and a custom severe injury table that triggers upon Death as a secondary option with permanent ongoing effects.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
The session 0 will give you all you need for this but really all I would require from you is character art and a D&D Beyond sheet as well as a fantastic disposition and a willingness to roll lots of dice!
What Tomas B brings to the table
We play using Foundry VTT, I make custom tokens for my players and showcase examples of such things during our 1to1 session 0. D&D Beyond character creation is wonderful but not required, as we only use the website for the initial creation step, every thing else will be done in the VTT. I very much like to lean into the voice work of the characters in my world and use professional audio equipment to do so, so expect the best from me on that department!

How Tomas B creates a safe table
I provide a 1to1 session 0 for each of my individual players so we can set up expectations and talk about the game as a whole! My goal is to make sure everyone is on the same page so that we can star the game as soon as everyone meets ! :)
