About the adventure

Perhaps your map is out of date. Or maybe you just made a wrong turn somewhere. Regardless of the reason, the effect is the same: you’re lost. You don’t want the sweet treats you’re delivering to get stale before you arrive at your destination, and even worse, it’s starting to get dark. The only sign of civilization within the marsh is the enormous tower that's steadily been coming into view for the past hour but it’s not on your map and something about it seems…off. Once upon a time... there was a Princess. Actually, a few Princesses. You have probably heard their stories. The Princesses who were locked away in towers or had evil step-parents. The ones who kissed frogs or tamed beasts or were secretly mermaids. You know. THOSE Princesses. This game is about what happens to those Princesses when they find themselves in a whole new world with new perils lurking around every corner. A world of dragons and monsters and wizards and the Dark Scary Things that hide in the Dark Scary Places. Luckily, they begin this adventure especially equipped to deal with the challenges that await. They have their resolve, their grace and their wits—the kind of inner strength that only Princesses possess. Paired with a basket of goodies and a special Gift from their Fairy Godmothers, they sharpen their swords, light their torches, polish their glass slippers and set out together to delve into the darkest dungeons. __________________________________________________ This Learn To Play one-shot will have 30-45 minutes of character creation, followed by 3 hours of play! __________________________________________________ Subject Matter: fantasy, mystery, violence, medieval-like themes. There are some fantasy magical creatures that may be indirectly harmed or alluded to, but will be done in accordance with lines and veils. You can expect classic fantasy magic tropes from things like Disney movies, musicals, folklore, and even the occasional Brothers Grimm.

How to prepare

Players will need a stable internet connection, a webcam, a mic, access to discord and google (both you can make for free!) They will need to review materials prior to our session but will not need to make a character.

What I provide

I'll provide all the resources necessary to create a character and play the game, all via PDF and hosted online in a ttrpg-centric discord! I'll utilize ambient music, a shared google sheet for our information - and we'll play with video on discord! If a map is needed, we'll utilize the free owlbear rodeo interface. I love to try character voices (though maybe not able to carry an accent consistently) and give varied dynamics with all NPCs. This is a combat light, roleplay heavy old school style game in which the players are encouraged to roleplay and think strategically. For princesses, not every hazard should be met with violence. Players can expect a goofy tone with serious moments from time to time in a primarily classic fantasy-themed experience.

Gameplay details

The game or system involves events that may result in descriptions of biases, motives, accidents, injuries, abuse, jealousy, classism, betrayal, religion, and/or cults. Your character may experience some violence as part of their journeybut has the option to be more or less careful about putting themselves in danger and to state/share any lines or veils around this prior to any roleplay. We will fill out a lines and veils sheet at the top of play and go over all safety tools for our digital game. Safety Tools: Lines & Veils, X-Card, CATS will all be in effect.

How will character creation work

Players will be invited to a discord server where the game will be hosted and given all the materials to create a character. There is not an expectation to make a Princess (character) before you play, only to familiarize yourself with the content provided. Players will have the opportunity to make their characters day of at the start of session using roll tables, but are encouraged to make them beforehand. Characters will be created on fillable pdf character sheets provided by the warden (that's me!)
