About the adventure

Welcome to Lancer, the game of mech combat! Thousands of years in the future, the galaxy still faces many threats. When citizens of the Union are in danger they trust Lancers, elite mech pilots, to save the day. You are one such pilot. You-and your fully customizable mech-are the best of the best. In this game, we'll be playing a short campaign with the pre-created adventure Operation Solstice Rain. It's perfect for beginners, but exciting for veterans too. This will be a short campaign, taking the players from License Level 0 to License level 2. Your mechs are prepped and loaded aboard the dropship, ready for deployment. Through your chassis’ camera feeds, strapped securely into the cockpit, you watch as the hatches slide closed around you and the hangar airlocks open for launch. From up here, Cressidium looks peaceful – a shimmering jewel hanging in space. “Ten seconds to drop.” You take a breath as the pilot counts down. Inhale. Exhale. Then your stomach lurches as the clamps disengage and the dropship’s thrusters kick into full burn. *** For 500 years, the planet Cressidium has been isolated from the wider galaxy. Turned from a fledgling colony into a refuge for those fleeing from the fall of the Second Committee, the people of Cressidium have struggled and fought to build a home for themselves while casting off the shadow of SecComm’s tyranny. Five centuries later, an encounter with a Union exploratory mission has ignited an interest in rejoining the galactic community, but not everyone on Cressidium sees the Third Committee as potential allies, but rather usurpers of humanity’s rightful legacy among the stars. Now, the arrival of a Union diplomatic delegation may be the spark that causes simmering tensions between nations to erupt into all-out war.

Additional details

How to prepare

Players will need accounts for discord and roll20, as well as a working mic. The rules for Lancer are also necessary, but Massif Press kindly features a free "players version".

What I provide

I will provide a Roll20 loaded with maps and appropriate mech images for the players to employ and visualize the battle. We'll also have music, and even sound effects. There will be roleplaying and some skill usage, but Lancer is primarily a mech combat system. I have experience running and playing Lancer, and should be able to set up some exciting, challenging battles for the players.

Gameplay details

Before we begin gameplay, I will send out a lines and veils document through messages on the game discord. In general, Solstice Rain features battles and intense mecha combat but has no gratuitously brutal content.

How will character creation work

Players will create their characters-and their mechs-during the first session, although they may also do so before the session if they desire or if they are experienced players. Players will begin at License Level 0, as is standard for Lancer. The scenario assumes PCs are relatively new Lancer pilots of the Union.
