About the adventure
You are an Exorcist, an individual graced with psychic powers manifested from the darkest depths of the collective psyche. Your powers, and your self, have been honed by CAIN, an extra-governmental agency with international reach. Under CAIN's careful watch you have been transformed into a weapon. Be thankful. Those graced with powers who are not subjected to CAIN's strict regime more often than not find their powers manifesting as Sins. Sins are living psychic entities birthed of trauma, tragedy, and pain. Most ordinary humans are blind to these manifestations of humanities failures, but you do not have that luxury. Your life has been devoted to the hunt and destruction of Sins. Today, October 31st, a new Sin has emerged. 1 hr, 12 mins ago, witnesses began reporting a group of armed adult humans in grotesque masks "trick or treating" at gunpoint. They arrived at the door to a residential neighborhood in a group of four, pointed a gun at the occupant and demanded candy. Any resistance to their demand was met with immediate and unrestrained violence. If given sufficient candy, the individuals left for the next house. If they were given insufficient candy, they retaliated with immediate and unrestrained violence. Several squads with this modus operandi have been identified already, and they seem to be acting in coordinated raids. Behavioral analysis suggests they are under the influence of a Toad, but no one with sufficient grace to maintain memories of the Sin has reported on it. Toads are Sins born of extreme material want, and are known for acquiring material wealth. That this toad is focused on candy is anomalous, but make no mistake the Toad is dangerous. There has been one fatality already, and we have not sighted the beast itself. Your task is simple. You will be dispatched to the area. Investigate the crimes, find the Sin, destroy it. Once deployed you will be on your own. No mortal authority recognizes CAIN, but your authority exceeds the mortal. Execute CAIN doctrine. Show no mercy.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I am a compulsive storyteller, and adore telling stories with people. I love the mechanical bits and bobs of games, but my real passion is for the cooperative storytelling. It's the blend of thoughts and ideas all mixed together that makes roleplaying games a unique and treasured medium. I've been GMing for 16 years now, with experience in a wide rage of systems and settings, and always looking forward to expanding my horizons and experiences. Personal favorite games include Unknown Armies (2e), Dread, Swashbucklers of the Seven Skies, and Wild Talents. I can't wait to find out what stories we can tell together!

Creating your character
CAIN has straightforward playbook based character creation. While coming in with clear character ideas is always helpful, it won't be expected for a learn to play game like this.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a Discord account and a microphone for this game. Ideally, read the rules in advance, but we will be covering them for all levels of comprehension.
What Elizabeth brings to the table
I'll bring the rules, the mystery, my creativity, and enthusiasm! Since CAIN is a new game, and I'm expecting most players to be unfamiliar with the ins and outs, we'll be focusing on clear and concise coverage of the basic rules and engagement with the rules as written. That said, my preferred style for CAIN is the clash of horror against the rule of cool. Big sweeping displays of heroism and strife against a backdrop of insidious dread.

How Elizabeth creates a safe table
CAIN is a game focused on tragedy, trauma, and stress expressed through metaphorical monsters. Heavy topics are part of the territory. As such, it's important that we approach the game with sensitivity and openness. At the start of each session we will go over Lines and Veils and establish clear boundaries, making adjustments where needed to best fit everyone's comfort level.
