About the adventure

Heroic adventurers wanted to venture into the Mists to confront that Master of Ravenloft, Strahd Von Zarovich. The curse of Strahd is... a level 1-10 D&D classic on every bucket list. a gothic tale of horror and romance. a challenge you will not regret accepting. "Under raging storm clouds, a lone figure stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. The vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich stares down a sheer cliff at the village below. A cold, bitter wind spins dead leaves about him, billowing his cape in the darkness. Lightning splits the clouds overhead, casting stark white light across him. Strahd turns to the sky, revealing the angular muscles of his face and hands. He has a look of power—and of madness. His once handsome face is contorted by a tragedy darker than the night itself. Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind’s howling increases as Strahd turns his gaze back to the village. Far below, yet not beyond his ken, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd’s face forms a twisted smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they have come—all according to his plan. He, the master of Ravenloft, will attend to them. Another lightning flash rips through the darkness, its thunder echoing through the castle’s towers. But Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind—or perhaps a lone wolf—fills the midnight air. The master of Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited."

Game style

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Party notes

Great game for someone who has started COS but didn't survive the ending. Not recommended for new player to the module. They began as five and have dwindled to three. The Castle awaits. They are: Cleric, Fighter, Wizard Message me for details of where they are, no *spoilers* here.

Goes above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable. He makes that extra effort to prepare before each session. Is able to be flexible when needed, especially when running official d&d content to make sure its the best experience for his players.

I came to SPG as a complete beginner of D&D, looking for a GM who wouldn't mind teaching me the game from a total newbie standpoint and walking me through all the steps from character creation to finishing a story. I was incredibly lucky to find David right away; I jumped into a Learn-To-Play one-shot with him and some of my friends and have been hooked ever since. David takes his time to explain how the game works, he goes into great detail of the world around you and the characters you meet along the way. And for someone who is new to roleplaying, I sometimes find myself at a standstill trying to figure out my next move and David must recognize that and helps guide me to what options and ideas we may be able to play out - so if you have any sort of anxiety about "getting lost" during your turn, David will help set you back on track, which he's definitely had to do for me more than once. He makes every session fun, every character you run into its own adventure, and is seriously highly recommended for beginners who want to learn the ropes. He brings the characters you bump into so much fun to interact with! I've since done multiple one-shots and am now in a campaign with him and I'm hooked being at his table. So if you're looking for a patient teacher who is creative and eager to tell a great story, stop searching the rest of SPG and come sit at David's table - you'll leave ready to jump into another one of his stories!

The session was great. The DM was patient. He went at our pace and sought hard to make it something we would enjoy. I will be using again!

David is a wonderful and experienced GM. I dropped in to his ongoing one-shot series Dungeon of the Mad Mage and the onboard to get up to speed was handled very well and the adventure itself was a great blend of combat, puzzles, and social encounters. I certainly hope I get a chance to play at his table again.

A really great teacher for beginners! The set up for the game was very simple but still challenging. He kept things entertaining and the story moving forward. I liked that he didn’t overwhelm us with rules, spells, or advanced options since we were new. Very responsive to any questions as well.

What I provide

Ambiance and Immersion takes the front seat as we roll with the latest ruleset from D&D. We live and die by dice, but do our best to stay alive. A great story will be told and great battles will unfold. I will focus on pacing and getting your party to a satisfying conclusion for better or worse against the indomitable Strahd Von Zarovich.
