About me

I have been a game master for around a decade or so, the system I am most familiar with is DnD 5e, though I'm endeavoring to learn others. I decided to start running games because a group of friends and I were having so much fun playing in a game every other week when our GM had to move out of state. We needed someone to take the reins, so I stepped up, despite being the newest member of the group. Ever since then, I've been both playing and running games, learning new things all the time. I do apologize for the RBF that I seem to have stuck on my face outside of RP and conversation. Games that I run tend to follow an overarching story, but I do attempt to weave in nuggets from character backstories and player goals. I tend to run in homebrew worlds, where I learn just as much about the world as the players do. Of the pillars of RPG's, I'm strongest with role-play, but weakest with combat. When playing with me at the helm, you can live out whatever kind of fantasy you'd like, as long as it fits in with the table environment. As a GM, I understand that the environment around my table is my responsibility to nurture and protect to be a healthy and fun space for everyone. I also enjoy helping people make characters and backstories, as well as teaching newcomers to the system how it works and things they can do. One of my hobbies is making broken magical items and dangerous cursed items for the world, all of which you can find somewhere throughout the realms and planes. If you want an item made, I have no shortage of NPC's who can help out, and even ways for you to use tools and existing items to try and make it happen yourself. I also enjoy making various NPC's with their own quirks and gimmicks for players to interact with, and I have a few stories from groups I've played with and their interactions with said NPC's. So, if you're ready to tell a story together, let's dive on in and see what we can make.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character Creation will happen at Session 0, where the rules and expectations will be communicated. I use official content, as well as 3rd party content. Any content a player would like to bring they can, but I need a copy to read over so I can aprove.

The current party

This campaign will be run dealing with powerful creatures that have adapted to specific environments that sometimes venture out and cause problems. Set some time after the events of my last campaign in this world. When joining in, do not come with a character ready, for in Session 0 I will gather details from you and, depending on how long that takes, I will immediately run a short mini-session to serve as a prologue to our game that will also serve to get you a character that already has stakes in this adventure.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a microphone for sure, a webcam is optional depending on how you choose to do your dice rolling. You should have Discord downloaded on your device as well as a reliable internet connection. If you want to use your own physical assets, feel free to, just make sure there's a way of seeing the dice rolling live so that if it is requested of you to show your rolls you are able to.

What Tanner brings to the table

I will bring content from DnD Beyond, and a discord server where information and gameplay will happen. I utilize Theater of the Mind to encourage 3 dimensional thinking, and I often utilize character voices to breathe life into the NPC's to try to make roleplay more engaging. Games in this world can be expected to be adventurous and filled with plenty of options for everyone from the heavy roleplayer to the powergamer.

Safety

How Tanner creates a safe table

All of my rules, as well as the formation of the Lines and Veils, happen through a Google Survey during Session 0. The survey will be given to players during the start of Session 0 before we even begin discussing character creation.
