About the adventure
An ancient threat stirs beneath the surface of Varisia, and only you can stop it. In Rise of the Runelords, your adventure begins in the quaint coastal town of Sandpoint, a peaceful place that has known little more than small town troubles—until now. What starts as a simple goblin raid soon spirals into a much larger, darker mystery, pulling you into a conflict that has its roots in ancient history. As you investigate strange occurrences and face dangerous foes, you’ll uncover the shadow of the Runelords, powerful tyrants from a bygone age, whose influence is threatening to return. This epic campaign will take you across Varisia, from the wilderness surrounding Sandpoint to forgotten ruins, deadly dungeons, and lost cities filled with the remnants of a once-great empire. Along the way, you’ll face terrifying creatures, twisted cults, and powerful magic, all while unearthing long-hidden secrets that reveal the true scope of the threat you’re up against. Your characters will need to be adaptable, brave, and ready for anything. Whether you're a stalwart warrior, cunning rogue, or master of arcane arts, this campaign offers opportunities for heroism, moral choices, and intense combat. The story is rich with opportunities for character development and personal stakes, as your heroes will need to make difficult decisions that could shape the future of Varisia itself. As the Runelords’ legacy looms large, you’ll be tested not only by physical challenges but also by mysteries and plots that will demand clever thinking and teamwork. How to prepare
Players will need a Discord account and a Roll20 account to join the game, as well as a microphone that’s clear enough to be easily heard by everyone. A basic understanding of the game is recommended, but more than anything, you’ll need your imagination and a good attitude! This game is about having fun and working together, so as long as you bring your creativity and enthusiasm, we’ll have a great time.
What I provide
I'll be bringing the full module to life on Roll20, complete with detailed maps and digital handouts, while providing music over Discord to enhance the atmosphere. Players will have access to extra tutoring during character creation, as well as a helpful website for character sheets, with access to all character materials. I'll also craft custom HeroForge minis for each player to make their characters truly stand out. I love breathing life into NPCs by giving them unique traits, personalities, and distinct voices. While I keep combat loose and fun, I still aim to make it challenging. I fully embrace the "rule of cool" when it benefits the game, and I always prioritize story and roleplay above mechanics when a choice between them arises, ensuring the narrative flows smoothly and remains exciting.
Gameplay details
Before our first session, I'll be sending out a link to my Lines and Veils document, which will outline boundaries and ensure everyone feels safe and respected. Session 0 will be focused on setting up character creation, discussing expectations and intentions for the campaign, and going over player priorities alongside my preferences as the DM. We'll also explore fun extras like creating custom minis on Hero Forge and talk about how much decompression players might need after each session. Additionally, we'll take time to discuss everyone's comfort levels with emotional roleplay and establish boundaries for a healthy, engaging game environment.

How will character creation work
Character creation can begin before session 0, but the majority of characters will be expected to be made during session 0. I have the full range of player options avalible to me through digital character creation.
