About me

I'm passionate about helping people learn to play D&D in a comfortable and safe environment. Play is so important for our brains and nervous systems but we have so little opportunities for it as adults - let's learn a new outlet for play and social connection together!

Character creation

Creating your character

I need a general sense of your character backstory a week before our first session so that I can plan. In our first session we'll create character sheets together. WORLD CONTEXT You live in a major U.S. city in the real present-day world with one exception - in this world, magic is real, though rare. You're a high school kid who lives with at least 1 parent or guardian who travels internationally for work and is gone a lot. BACKSTORY QUESTIONS - What grade/how old do you want to be? - What major U.S. city do you live in? - How aware and knowledgeable about the world are you? e.g., are you sheltered or a rebellious and worldly-wise teen? - What is your family like? Both parents together/separate? Siblings? - What kind of relationship do you have with your parent(s)?

What to expect

Preparing for the session

- Message me your backstory details one week before our kickoff session! - Being on camera is not mandatory, but I would LOVE to see your faces - We'll meet over Zoom, no need to download anything else

What Kate the Great brings to the table

My GM style focuses on getting players comfortable with roleplay and reading a character sheet and is less focused on the crunchy details like inventory-keeping and how to build a maxed out character. I create a safe, encouraging environment to try this out for the first time! I'll screenshare a virtual table top via Zoom so that you don't have to download anything new, but I will need you to create an account on dndbeyond.com so that we can create character sheets together in-person.

Safety

How Kate the Great creates a safe table

It's great to be sensitive to others! If something comes up in session that is too close to home for a player, we should know to accommodate them. I don't have too much mature content in this module, but I'll go over the Lines and Veils safety tool and can teach you what to expect from other GMs in future so that you feel comfortable enough to let your creative juices flow during session!
