About the adventure
In the Kingdom of Norfal, it's illegal to cast so much as a cantrip without a permit; but at the lofty price 1,000g every year, that is a luxury that most mages can't afford. Worse still, mages who dare to cast without a permit run the risk of disappearing, never to be seen or heard from again. What could be happening to them? Is there foul play afoot? Spell Slayer takes place in a kingdom with a series of strict regulations regarding the use of magic, along with a laundry list of harsh punishments for mages that violate those laws. Many common folk view spellcasters as menaces to society, whether or not they abide by the government's regulations. After all, people are afraid of what they do not understand. A frightened individual can be reasoned with. A frightened mob, on the other hand...
✨We are still accepting up to 2 more players!✨ This campaign currently has enough seats filled to start, and is estimated to run through level 10, with approximately 60-80 sessions. A game of D&D is only as good as its players gel with one another! The original party group consists of two veteran players and one beginner player. In the interest of ensuring that this party is a good fit for your personality and play-style (and vice versa), you can expect to spend a little time chatting and aligning before your request to join is accepted. It's important to me that I give each of my players the same amount of attention when it comes to onboarding them into a campaign! As such, it may be approximately 2 weeks before your character is able to join the game after you sign up, in the interest of ensuring that I am able to provide you with the proper care and attention to backstory details required to facilitate a fulfilling narrative. During this time, we will discuss your character at length via Discord private message. You will NOT be charged for sessions in which you do not participate during this run-up time!

How to prepare
✅REQUIRED✅ ✅A computer/laptop with a stable internet connection ✅A microphone ✅A free account on Tarrasque.io ✅A Discord account ✅A method of rolling dice (real physical dice, a dice-rolling app, etc. If all else fails, you can always use Google's die roller: https://g.co/kgs/wCfKTzc) 👍NOT REQUIRED👎 👍 A webcam; video is optional for all players 👎 An intimate understanding of the rules; I love teaching new players! ❌DO NOT BRING❌ ❌ Pre-made characters! Simple character concepts that can be expanded upon/fleshed out are welcome, however I strongly prefer to collaborate in the character-creation process!
What I provide
✨A private category for your party on my Discord server, including channels for text roleplay between sessions ✨A VTT via Tarrasque.io with an array of battle maps ✨Curated instrumental playlists for various scene ambiance ✨A detailed worldbuilding document for added immersion At your request... ✨Custom character tokens using HeroForge ✨Pre-made characters with character sheets ✨Low-mortality homebrew rules, wherein character death is replaced by severe injuries HOMEBREW RULES 🎲Spicy Crits: Critical hits automatically deal maximum dice damage, and THEN you roll your dice and add your modifier! 🎲Disengaging: When disengaging, you may move an additional 5 feet beyond your normal movement speed during your turn. 🎲Flanking does not confer advantage, but DOES allow your ally to deal extra damage! 🎲Simplified money tracking 🎲Supplemental content adapted from other TTRPG systems (e.g. Call of Cthulhu style chase-scenes) WHAT TO EXPECT: This is a narrative-heavy campaign with plenty of combat, but a heavier focus on roleplay. (If you a prefer kick-in-the-door, dungeon-crawl style of gameplay, this game may not be a good fit for you.) Players who enjoy immersing themselves in a setting and growing attached to characters will have the most fun! I strive to make this game a safe space for everyone - especially women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community! Beginner players are also welcome; I love teaching people to play D&D, and will happily make space for you to learn!
Gameplay details
Spell Slayer is set in the rolling plains lands of Norfal. This adventure features a "person vs society" focused plotline, with themes of government overregulation, criminal underbellies, and the upper class manipulating the opinions and perspectives of the common folk. To the extent that your party is comfortable, it may contain scenarios of fantasy class warfare and ethnic tension. I am extremely committed to ensuring that my games are a safe space for everyone! To that end, many of the content warnings listed for this campaign can be adjusted on an as-needed basis to ensure that everyone has a good time. Prior to the start of a campaign, each player will be asked to fill out an RPG Consent Checklist, the details of which can be discussed for clarification on an individual basis. During the course of the campaign, I will conduct regular check-ins via private message to ensure that my players' needs are being addressed, and additionally, my direct messages are ALWAYS open for constructive discussion!

How will character creation work
Character creation will occur prior to the start of the game, predominantly through text chat on Discord. I will provide you with handouts that detail the campaign setting (including a long-form worldbuilding document for you to review at your discretion) and will be available to provide additional world details via Discord. PLAYER BUY-IN Create a character that is capable of using magic (preferred), knows someone who is capable of using magic, and/or has a strong opinion and/or stake in the in-world debate about the government's regulation of magic. AVAILABLE RACES Aarakocra, Aasimar, Bugbear, Changeling, Dragonborn, Dwarf, Elf, Firbolg, Genasi, Gnome, Goblin, Goliath, Grung, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Halfling, Hobgoblin, Human, Kenku, Lizardfolk, Orc, Tabaxi, Tiefling, Warforged ADDITIONAL/HOMEBREW RACES Gnoll (Gnolls are not inherently evil/the spawn of Yeenoghu) Chaond (SUBRACE - like tieflings/aasimar, but touched by the chaos planes) Emendari (SUBRACE - like tieflings/aasimar, but touched by the lawful planes) RACE SUGGESTIONS (For World Cohesion) Emendari, Human, Halfling, Goliath, Gnoll CLASSES/SUBCLASSES/BACKGROUNDS Any class/subclass/background from any official D&D 5e sourcebook (not including Unearthed Arcana, or any material from the 2024 edition handbook). STARTING LEVEL All characters will start at level one. ABILITY SCORES This campaign utilizes the "roll 4d6, drop the lowest" method for generating ability scores. In the interest of ensuring a level playing field, I will calculate the average total of each players' ability scores, and any character whose total falls below that average will receive extra points to make up the difference. ALIGNMENT I do not utilize the standard alignment system in my campaigns, except in the case of extraplanar beings (such as Demons). You are not required to select an alignment for your character, but are welcome to do so at your own discretion.
