About the adventure

Beginners welcome! I run an all inclusive table, LGBTQ+ friendly. Taking a more classic "Adventurers" approach to the campaign this time, you will have more freedom to look around and develop stories. Rather than me starting with a major story hook like I usually do, and building side stories that shoot off from there; the stories will develop based on your actions. A few minor quest hooks that can develop based on how you interact with, or choose to ignore; will theoretically evolve into big bads and major events. : ) I run a roleplay heavy game and I'm looking for players who are into roleplay and exploration. (because literally there's an island to explore). I'm not big on alignment in general, so pick whatever as long as you roleplay well... I prefer non-evil characters, only because their goals are often at odds with everyone else and it can be difficult to pull off, but I maybe can be convinced otherwise if you're dedicated to roleplaying and working together with the group. You can play any class and species in any official sourcebook. The elements are awry in town, flash fires and floods, quaking earth, and strong winds… something is amiss in the town of Vintnermere We are still very early in the campaign (less than 5 sessions). Come join the fun!

About me

When the last D20 is rolled the world will end. I've been sent back in time to reverse this through Dungeons and Dragons. Together we can save the world. I bring storylines that adapt to the players and love creative thinkers. I run a sandbox, narrative, and roleplay heavy(ish) custom setting with probably one combat or challenge encounter per session unless the players are dictating otherwise. I’m not really big on one-shots, my passion lies in campaigns. The ongoing epic stories the players guide and participate in makes for some amazing memories. I look forward to making new memories with my players. (No racists or homophobes need apply. LGBT+ friendly, all inclusive, people of all walks of life welcome. I love everyone and you should too.) Character creation

Creating your character

We're going to start out at level 4 just for the first session, leveling to 3 at the end of the session. For your ability scores take 72 points and allocate them among your 6 ability scores. This is not a point buy, just a distribution of numbers. 72 points comes out to an average of 12 per ability score. Before racial bonuses, no ability score should exceed 18. Use the starting equipment as outlined in the PHB by your class. Get your weapons, armor, components, and gear as you see fit. You cannot start out with a set of plate mail armor though. In session zero I will provide a series of magic items that we will take turns picking for your characters. If you have any questions about any of this, need assistance, or have an idea of something you'd like to try - reach out to me.

The current party

A few middle-aged guys are currently at table, looking to fill some spots in a barely-started campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a microphone and an account on both discord and roll20. They are free. Webcam is entirely optional. Roll20 has a die roller on that, if you don't trust it and you want to use your own dice that's fine too! Just don't cheat. If you're rolling a suspicious amount of 20s I might ask you to use a webcam and show me. lol. Hopefully it never comes to that. After session zero make sure you have your character sheet ready when we play, whether it's on paper or on your device is up to you. I'll need a copy of it at start and when you level up, a pic is fine. This is just to make sure I am accurately gauging the level of difficulty I'm throwing at you.

What Ben brings to the table

The great thing about Dungeons and Dragons today vs when I started playing is that everything is available online. I recommend you pick up a copy of the players handbook - a lot of libraries have them if you don't feel like buying one... BUT, it's all google searchable anyway, so you don't really need any of it. I do character voices, I'm even kind of okay at it. I offer self deprecating humor, strong improvisational role play, terrible monster sounds, and questionable sound-effects.

Safety

How Ben creates a safe table

Sessions include roleplay opportunity and encounters. I try to ensure there is at least one combat encounter on deck to interact with; but there are plenty of times when combat just might not happen. Ultimately that's determined by the players and the choices you make. There is always roleplay. Off limits: R*pe and graphic sexual encounters. Sex happens, I get it, but any sex 'scenes' that may occur must be initiated by the player with all parties being okay with it - and will be done entirely off-screen. (we can assume the love happened, no need to play it out). If there is a topic you'd like me to add to this list, please reach out; it is important that our players are comfortable. Inter-character flirtation is off limits among PCs unless all parties involved express they are comfortable with the prospect, and so long as it doesn't become a primary focus. Flirt away with the NPCs if you'd like. We will run a session zero where we can discuss safety and any hard lines we don't feel comfortable with. I'd also like to hammer out characters, at least conceptually.
