About me

Hi, I'm Sara from Cape Town, South Africa and I'd love to play some RPGs with you. I began my TTRPG adventure by running the AGE system for some friends at the start of 2020, and then adding D&D 5e, Blades in The Dark, Numenera and Pathfinder to my wheelhouse, with most of my games now being run in D&D 5e. Running games in a variety of systems has given me a larger number of tools to draw from when playing. I love learning new techniques and adding them to my GM-style if they make the game better for my players. Growing up in a country with 11 official languages and all of the many cultures those represent, living with chronic illness, and having a background in education (10-13 year olds) has given me an appreciation for providing accessibility options and embracing diversity at my table.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters should come from the Forgotten Realms with races and backgrounds appropriate to that setting used. During the Session 0 we will make and adjust characters to create a well-rounded group that have bonds and connections with the rest of the party at the start of the campaign. Ability score allocation will be done using point-buy.

The current party

Are you looking to take a character from level 1 to 20? Then this is the game for you as you meet, befriend or plan heists against some of the Forgotten Realms' beloved characters, and travel through a 23 level mega-dungeon. Start as a level 1 adventurer picking up odd jobs with your new business associates and end by becoming powerful enough to defeat the legendary Halaster Blackcloak himself. Set in the iconic city of Waterdeep in the Forgotten Realms D&D setting, bring your vast D&D lore knowledge to bare, or learn along with your character. The current party are a level 2 derro/shade (Tome of Heroes) monk, dwarven paladin, gnome wizard, ranger thri-kreen (spider) and a rogue hobgoblin.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A microphone, a Discord account and a quiet place to play are required. A webcam is encouraged because it makes for better roleplay, allows us to let you know when you are muted, and reminds people on the internet that they are dealing with real human beings. You will need access to a computer/laptop as Foundry VTT doesn't work properly on mobile devices.

What Sara brings to the table

The game takes place in a cloud based Foundry VTT server. It is there that you will be able to build your character sheet with a variety of options available from Wizards of the Coast official materials as well as a selection of third party content. Maps will be available for most combat and exploration encounters. Music and images will be used to enhance the atmosphere and provide context to scenes.

Safety

How Sara creates a safe table

Players will be provided with a Consent in RPGs checklist prior to the game. The first group session with be a Session 0 where we will discuss our lines and veils, as well as the tone we are looking for as a group. There is a set break at an appropriate point roughly an hour and a half into the session, but players are free to ask for breaks as they need. If a new line or veil is discovered while playing they will be immediately implemented with no questions asked. After the session I will be the last person to leave the call so that people can talk through any feelings or concerns.
