About the adventure

This campaign is a modified version of the Saltmarsh adventures, with some additional 3rd party content for side quests and encounters. The entire adventure is modified for play in my Amazons vs Valkyries campaign setting, which is an alternate history of the Hellenistic Age. This game is set on the Red Sea coast in southern Egypt in 272 BC. This fifth edition adventure is designed for four characters of 1st to 4th level, and is optimized for a party of four characters with an average party level (APL) of 1. At the campaign's conclusion, the characters will have advanced to 8th level. Come experience the Amazons vs Valkyries adventure setting with the setting's creator! Why Saltmarsh? Basically, I already have the Roll20 version and I've already worked out a lot of the modifications, so its a convenient game for me to run. Why Join this Game? #1. Free PDFs! Join this game and receive the following PDFs for free: *Amazons vs Valkyries: Species (Races) *Amazons vs Valkyries: Backgrounds *Amazons vs Valkyries: The Cult of Sekhmet *Amazons vs Valkyries: the Cult of Isis *Amazons vs Valkyries: Arms and Equipment *Amazons vs Valkyries: Campaign Primer *Amazons vs Valkyries: Optional Rules *Exclusive custom content for this campaign #2. Exciting alternate history adventure in the Hellenistic Age! This isn't a hodge-podge of fantasy tropes. Rather, all elements of this setting are carefully selected for historical appropriateness. #3. Heroic Adventure. Survive by the skin of your teeth and tell your friends about it for years after!

How to prepare

A Web cam or microphone and a Roll20 account are necessary. A DnDBeyond account will help a lot but isn't required at this time. We will create characters after the Game 0 session. In the Game 0 session, I will introduce the setting and provide additional material and information for character creation.

What I provide

The game is enhanced with period appropriate music and many historical details to help immersion. I also try to keep the game moving along quickly. Combat is sometimes easy, sometimes difficult, but always interesting. Each game session typically includes 1 to 3 battles of 3 to 8 rounds. The rest of the time is spent on story, skill challenges, and improvisational roleplaying. I'm giving all players a copy of several PDFs necessary for making characters in the Amazons vs Valkyries setting. I'm also proving several PDFs of customized content designed exclusively for this adventure. These PDFs include: *Amazons vs Valkyries: Species (Races) *Amazons vs Valkyries: Backgrounds *Amazons vs Valkyries: The Cult of Sekhmet *Amazons vs Valkyries: the Cult of Isis *Amazons vs Valkyries: Arms and Equipment *Amazons vs Valkyries: Campaign Primer *Amazons vs Valkyries: Optional Rules *Exclusive custom content for this campaign Once I have a group of players, I'll start a library on DnD Beyond that we can use.

Gameplay details

I like a high level of verisimilitude and realism in this setting. I think playing a TTRPG is like watching a movie. Some people enjoy gritty action, horror, or war movies, but not everyone. And even people who like that sort of thing tend to like other types of movies as well. I also enjoy other types of games. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a more cinematic or high magic or superhero game. But this setting is deeply rooted in reality and part of its purpose is to illustrate, highlight, recognize, and remind people of the horrors and atrocities that exist in our own world. The most dreadful fantasy a person can dream up still pales in comparison to the horrors of the real world. This setting is about the harsh, brutal life of our forbearers who lived large, partied hard, and died like heroines. If it happened in the real world, it s probably going to happen in this setting. That includes slavery, crucifixion, disfigurement, all sorts of torture and abuse, forced relocation, arranged marriages, and anything else I might find in a history book. This setting is, like "Game of Thrones", rated 'R' for nudity, violence, and adult themes. Like the HBO series "Rome", it is historical fiction with an emphasis on the surprising and sometimes shocking aspects of life in the ancient world.
