About the adventure

Mothership is a Science Fiction Horror setting far in the future and deep in the reaches of barely charted space. Humanity has stared into the final frontier, sometimes it stares back, sometimes what we see pushes us closer to the depths of madness. Character death is a real risk, fear, stress, sanity and all manners of horror are on the table. We will be playing in a world that combines a number of modules new and established including the following: The Haunting of Ypsilon 14 Rendezvous at Nightmare Station* Medusa's Nest The Spill* Caustic Depths* Rane in Blood The Burning of Carbex Gradient Descent Dead Space Pound of Flesh We will run the first several adventures with different characters, those who survive will become the pool of characters who become part of a player named securities company , based out of Prospero's Dream, hired by the shadowy powers that be to "troubleshoot" an number of larger scale problems. Will you survive to see your big payday and early retriment on a sunny resort world? Or will you sucumb to the horrors and madness found in the darkest corners of the cosmos? Join to find out. About me

I've been playing and running tabletop games since the mid 1990s. I loved creating and running stories for my friends, as well as fun and interesting characters to be a part of a shared story (and to provide a little entertainment for whomever was running the game as well). Over the last 25 plus years I've enjoyed meeting new friends and making connections playing in person and online. I see the process of running a game as a way to build connections with people and to have a shared experience where the goal is to have fun creating a shared story. As a game master, my role is to facilitate the world that your characters find themselves in To make it an interesting, fun, engaging place that you want to be a part of and explore regardless of if we are playing a full campaign, short campaign, or a one shot. Im a married father of 3, language and humanities teacher, former writer and annoncer for radio. Table top games are my one big hobby. I've taken the time to familiarize myself with Roll20 Foundry and Owlebear Rodeoover the last few years during the pandemic. I am a big proponent of providing a safe space for games regardless of background and not exceeding comfort zones. I believe that any game I run should be a safe space for any player regardless of ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, age or other demographic grounds. I believe in open communication as well as the rule of cool, and while I will often default to the rules or at the very least the spirit of them, I will gladly bend them for something interesting that makes the game more enjoyable for all. I believe the ability to improvise is just as important as the ability to plan and I try to find a solid balance between combat, social roleplay, exploration, and investigation. I do occasionally run Dungeons and Dragons 5E but much prefer Numenera, Mothership, Altais, and the Multitude of Settings available for Savage Worlds and Tiny D6 (and intend to put together a number of Free learn to play one shots for these systems in the coming days).

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation can be a part of Session 0, or players can be selected from the list of pregens (first posted first picked) We will need roughly 6 different characters for the first 6 adventures. It is preferred that after session 0 new characters are submitted no less than 24 hours prior to game night. I am fully able to assist and make my self available via chat to help with making characters one on one or as part of a larger group.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A decent internet connection (good enough to run discord with voice) is all that is really needed. Video is optional but not required. Having some dice on hand (2d10 and 1d20) is also recommended

What Devin brings to the table

I like to create an immersive setting using sounds effects, ambient music, detailed descriptions, and character voices. I'm a pretty relaxed GM and always open to creative solutions (and in Mothership, creative solutions or evasions tend to work far better than direct confrontation, its a pretty lethal game). I don't make folk role for every little thing, typically only when failure might cause a notable change in the story or when the consequences of failure are serious. Failure itself doesn't always mean a lack of success, in Mothership if often means success with unfortunate consequences. You can expect combat to have consequences. I am always happy to slow down or pause play to help clear up any confusion of how to play or potential options in a situation. I frequently work with and teach new players. The server will have a dice roller as well as pregens. I have the Mothership Companion Pro so am able to take any character you create on the companion (free or pro) and produce it for you. As part of the campaign there are 3 z-fold adventures written and produced by me (Rendezvous at Nightmare Station, The Spill, Caustic Depths), upon completion of the module (and final approval of the files by Tuesday Knight Games) complimentary copies will be supplied to players.

Homebrew rules

we use a few rules from the warden's manuel such as critical stress relief, improved advancement, opt-in stress, and rapid skill learning. I also greatly reduce the cost of shore leave and negotiate sensible prices and time duration based on PC location and action.

Safety

How Devin creates a safe table

Lines and veils will be shared in the lead up to and during session 0. During session 0 we will take a bit of time to get to know each other and air any questions and concerns as well as to make any changes that may be necessary before starting play. At the end of each session a few minutes will be taken to discuss how everyone feels about the session and the direction of the game. If players are a bit shy about bringing this up in the public discord, I am always reachable and willing to discuss on a one-to-one basis between game sessions on discord.
