About the adventure

he Hook: For this learn to play one-shot, you are a group of survivors making your escape after being picked up by Slavers on their way to Big City. The problem? You’ve got bomb collars on and a ticking count-down clock until they explode. You gotta get into Big City, find out how to get these collars off, and do it FAST! Good Luck! But what is Apocalypse World? “*Apocalypse World* posits that a role-playing game is like a conversation, and lets it flow like one. Things happen when you say they happen. Anytime you do something at which you might fail (a “move” in the parlance of the game) you roll two six-sided dice. Roll a 10, 11, or 12 and you have a solid success. Roll a 7,8,or 9 and you succeed, but not spectacularly. Roll a 6 or less and the gamemaster tells the player what happens, and the game’s creator, Vincent Baker, wrote, “I promise you won’t like it.”- From The Nerdist *Learn to play this foundational indie game while you play it! *Learn the game that inspired a thousand hacks! *BLOW YOUR MIND with a game-as-conversation style that may even CHANGE THE WAY you think about roleplaying games! You: A player read to see what all the fuss is about with a story driven indie roleplaying game. Me: A GM and game designer with decades of experience teaching games, a stack of character sheets and a big dream of More Games for More Players! I will provide you everything you need to play, so you never have to crack a book if you don’t want to!

Additional details

How to prepare

You will need a discord account, a working mic, a working camera if you want and some excitement to play! I will handle the rest. :D I will provide some materials about player safty and expectations of play that I’d love you to look over before we play!

What I provide

We'll use Discord for organization and audio/video calls. Some combat and exploration scenes will use a VTT like Owlbear Rodeo, all with free sign ups for players. I will provide players with sheet guidance and aids so you'll never have to crack a book to play if you don't want to! If you'd like an idea of how I run a table, I streamed several episodes of my own game #iHunt with the Critshow! You can check that out here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb9QudaBHls&t=707s&pp=ygUSI2lodW50IGFjdHVhbCBwbGF5

Gameplay details

I'll be providing you a Level Sheet, something like a Consent Checklist custom made for the games I run. Additionally I'll provide a player expectation doc for you to agree to. It'll cover things like handling out of character friction, expectations when missing a session, and more! While playing, there will be a red-light-green-light system within Owlbear Rodeo so you can slow or stop play as you need! The first ten or so minutes of our game session will include a brief touch on all these safety tools as a refresher!

How will character creation work

Apocalypse World builds character fast by starting you with a Playbook you select, and the rest helps build to world so it will be cooperative at the start of the session! Don't worry, it goes so fast you won't believe it!
