About the adventure

A 5e Adventure in the World of Critical Role! You have a personal reason to travel into the Black Valley. Signing on to accompany Gundren Rockseeker to drive wagons of goods up the valley offers you the opportunity to get paid for your journey. After all, what could go wrong with a simple escort of trade goods? In this adventure you will: 👉🏼 Find out what secret the Rockseeker Brothers are hiding! 🛡️ Protect a village from a group of ruthless thugs! 🗺️ Explore the local area, including areas devastated by demonic forces! ⚔️ Rescue hostages! 🔎 Find a secret mine which has been lost for centuries! 📢 Interact with dozens of unique NPCs and discover their stories, secrets, hopes, and dreams! 🕵🏽 Discover the various forces which vie for power even in this remote location! 🪨 Find out who is vandalizing Jorenn Village! ⚒️ Follow the clues to track down missing villagers! 🧠Pit yourselves against gruesome creatures! 🏡Save the village from destruction by invaders from beyond! This campaign uses the Phandelver and Beyond adventure with custom expansions and story modifications to adapt the setting into the history and lore of Exandria. Expect moderate level of role play, moderate to high combat, and high exploration. The campaign can continue in any one of three directions depending upon the interest of the players.

Recruiting notes

I offer the players a choice of continuing stories for this campaign. You will have the option to continue into: - A grim dark campaign to save Jorenn Village from otherworldly influences. - Saving the village and valley from a revengeful dragon - Exploring the continent and possibly beyond to retrieve a spell book which could be used to devastate the continent. This is an excellent campaign for beginning players with many challenges, ample opportunities for role play, and exploration of the northern valley which has been left desolate for a century. There are many expansions and additions to this adventure which can be added to bring in character back stories and help satisfy their personal goals.

Gameplay details

Starting with session 0, we will discuss the campaign in general to help with character development. We will discuss lines and veils and can the campaign modify based upon the discussion we have together or comments made privately if you prefer to be anonymous to the group. During play, we will have X,N,O cards on the roll20 screen for players to utilize if there are any issues which make the players uncomfortable. After the session, there will be a brief discussion of the events where we can make sure everyone is comfortable, where the story line is going, and review individual stars and wishes. I always keep an open door and can be contacted through discord, Rol20, or through startplaying.com for players who may wish to speak to me outside the game. Maps, dice rolls, and handouts will be on Roll20. Voice and music/ambient sounds will be over Discord. I have a dedicated discord channel for the game which will include areas for out of session role play, general session notes, and announcements. I do provide a written summary of each session on both the Roll20 game forum and on Discord for your personal enjoyment and/or review.

How will character creation work

We will create characters together during Session 0. We will create a common pool of attribute scores which the players will use to create their characters. This gives the excitement of a random set of numbers but start all characters off with a common baseline. Please do come with a character concept and a brief (one page) background story of your character if you so desire. Pre-made characters will also be available to choose from.
