About the adventure
*Unmask the Mystery. Face the Legend.* Choose a mythical figure. Choose an ordinary person. Mash them together— now you wield their power! Something sinister lurks in the City. An infectious force called Vector is spreading through high school students, twisting them into its agents. Can you and your classmates uncover its origins before you become its next victims? City of Mist is a cinematic detective role-playing game set in a world where ordinary people awaken to legendary powers. You play as investigators whose once-mundane lives have been transformed by the essence of a mythic figure—be it the Aztec god of lightning, the biblical Job, Hercules, Schrödinger’s Cat Paradox, the genie of Aladdin’s lamp, or even the lamp itself! No experience needed. Just bring your imagination and a taste for mystery. Are you ready to uncover the truth?
Game style
Rule of Cool (RoC)
“Rule of Cool” emphasizes creative story beats over sticking to a system’s rules as written. Players have the ability to push the limits of the rules or even break core rule mechanics at times if the Game Master thinks it is interesting, fun, or cool enough.
This is a great intro scenario for the City of Mist system, the precursor to the O:therscape and Legends in the Mist systems that are still in development. I've got pregenerated characters available, but building characters is a really interesting component of the game. See what life as a high school student with a mythic background would be like!
Additional details
How to prepare
A webcam isn't necessary, but please do have a mic (and preferably headphones or earbuds to avoid feedback and echoing). You'll also need a free Discord and Forge account.
What I provide
I'll bring a fantastic RPG system based on Powered by the Apocalypse and Fate that is very narrative based, cinematic, noir, and investigation focused.
Gameplay details
We'll go over the safety tools at the beginning of the game and reminders and/or updates regularly. The end of each session will have a debrief where we "Geek Out During the Credits" (the game is very cinematic, hence the "credits"). It's also very narrative focused where we "play to find out" how the story unfolds rather than a "railroad" of a game.
