About the adventure

People who throw coins into wishing wells to get their hearts desires are idiots. Wishes are granted by stepping through doors. Step through a door into the Infinite Staircase, where the wish of your heart can be gained by answering the wishes of others in service to the noble djinni Nafas. If, of course, the Iron Shadow doesn't fall upon a door to your dreams. The Iron Shadow, a faceless malevolence that steals creativity and life, has been spreading throughout the Staircase, and no one knows why. At the same time, Nafas, the congenial storyteller, is seeking a group capable of dealing with a most potent wish, one with the potential to reshape the status quo between the lower planes and the world you hold dear. Welcome, to the Infinite Staircase! We will be exploring this curious setting, and embarking on a journey through the classic adventures contained therein, and beyond, to the conclusion of whatever dark dream troubles Nafas, and perhaps the secret at the bottom of the Iron Shadows destructive work.

About me

Hey folks. If you’re reading this, then you’re probably considering me as your next dungeon master. I really appreciate your consideration, and I’ll try to make this worth your while. So, without further ado, I'm Timothy. And yes. Some people DO call me Tim. I’ve been playing D&D through the various editions for 25 years or so, and have been the DM for most of that. My greatest accomplishment is hooking my extended family, which has netted me the job of DMing for 7 family members on at least a weekly basis for the last few years. I’ve DMed for everyone from newcomers and eight year olds (both mentally and literally) all the way to crotchety old veterans. I spend far too much of my down time worrying about how I can make my game better. Frankly, I am obsessed with chasing that perfect session where everyone goes home and raves about it for years. I’m a bit of a rules encyclopedia, though I’m not afraid to admit I’m fallible. I’m willing to stretch things and say “yes, and...” in the name of a good story, and also willing to say “no, but...” to further that same goal. I encourage role play over roll play, but don't force people out of their comfort zones. I love to tie backgrounds and PC interests into the main storyline, or scrap the main storyline in favor of the pc’s. I believe that if you're paying for a DM, you're paying for a professional. To me, that means you can expect me to ACT professionally, even when we're having fun. You won't hear me cuss, gripe and complain about other players, and I'll generally treat you like the valuable customer you really are. If you’re looking for a DM who will customize the game to your tastes and truly care that you walk away satisfied week after week, I’m the guy you’re looking for.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created using the 2024 rules for Dungeons and Dragons 5e! Certain elements of 2014 rules may be allowable upon request, including Subclasses and Species, but otherwise we will be testing the new rules thoroughly and making the change with the bandaid ripped off! If you're interested in trying out D&D 2024, this is a great place for you.

The current party

We have COMPLETED the Quests from the Infinite Staircase, however, the group is charged with recovering a goddess from the Abyss, and stopping the spread of zones of malaise spreading throughout the stairs at the behest of the Goddess Shar. Come play your way to the final tier of D&D with us!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Though I highly encourage use of a webcam, in order to give me visual feedback to enhance your experience, Mic access, a free D&D beyond account, and a modern browser like Chrome are the only absolute necessities.

What Timothy brings to the table

I provide access to all content on D&D Beyond, a world within Foundry Virtual Tabletop, a Discord server for communication, and soundscapes for ambiance. I use character voices to attempt to differentiate and improve upon the portrayal of NPCs, and run a reasonable Rules as Written game, though I'm always willing to explore cool actions. I attempt to adjust my style to you, the player, instead of being too stuck in my own style, because your enjoyment at the table is paramount for me. You can expect that I'll be attentive and excited for game, and will strive every week to provide an experience that will make you want to come back next week.

Safety

How Timothy creates a safe table

We host a Session 0 to cover any major concerns, and people are always free to step away as needed. I am approachable at any time to discuss anything that might (or has) caused trouble, and am happy to police the table to keep difficult or uncomfortable topics from coming up in game. We will have a channel set aside for leaving feedback within Discord, as well as private messages.
