Creating your character
Character Creation Process and Timing Character creation will take place before the first session to ensure we can dive right into the adventure. We'll coordinate a time for a character creation session or you can create your character independently and submit it for approval. Starting Level Characters will begin at Level 1, ready to embark on their first steps into the untamed wilds of Chult. Ability Generation Abilities will be determined using the point-buy system. This method allows for balanced and customized character builds, ensuring all players start on an even footing. Character Creation Platform We'll use D&D Beyond for character creation. This platform provides easy access to rules, character sheets, and additional resources. Make sure to create an account if you don't already have one. Allowed Sources You may refer to the following core books for character creation: Player’s Handbook Dungeon Master’s Guide Monster Manual Restrictions: No homebrew content. No materials from unofficial or non-core sources. If you have a particular concept or idea that requires a unique approach, please discuss it with me beforehand. Additional Guidelines: Think about your character's background and how they fit into the setting of Chult. Consider their motivations for exploring this dangerous land and any connections they might have to the region. Align your character with the themes of adventure, exploration, heroism, and survival to enhance the campaign's immersive experience. Support and Community New players will be invited to the campaign's private Discord server, where they can chat with me and other players to discuss their characters, share ideas, and offer support. Note that all safety tools that apply to game sessions are in effect within the Discord server, including both in-character and out-of-character communications. There is a dedicated character creation section in the Discord server. One-on-One Sessions Each new player may schedule a private one-on-one character creation session (up to an hour) designed to help them get started or to answer questions. This personalized support ensures that everyone feels comfortable and confident with their characters. Pregenerated Characters If you are completely new to D&D, it might be best and easiest for you to choose a pregenerated character. Choosing a character and customizing it to fit your style and choices is a great way to get started with D&D. Character Replacement: If your character dies or you choose to retire them, you will be allowed to create a new character at the current party level.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Equipment: Webcam: Optional but recommended for more immersive engagement with fellow players. Headphones and Microphone: Required. A basic USB headset with a mic is ideal to avoid feedback and echo caused by using speakers and a microphone at the same time, which can disrupt the game. High quality isn't necessary as long as we can clearly understand you. Accounts and Software: Discord: You'll need a free account on Discord for voice (and optional video) communication. Make sure to download and install the app for the best experience. Roll20: A free Roll20 account is required for maps, handouts, and ambient music. Familiarize yourself with the basic functions of the platform. D&D Beyond: A free account on D&D Beyond is needed for character creation and accessing rules and resources. Preparation: Basic Rules: Players should familiarize themselves with the basic rules for D&D and their chosen character class. However, this is a beginner-friendly game, so if you don’t know how to play, you are welcome here and we will help you learn in supportive and fun ways. Character Creation: Ensure your character is created before the first session. Refer to the character creation guidelines provided earlier, and feel free to schedule a one-on-one session if you need help.

Safety
How Clifton Lambert creates a safe table
Safety Tools Prime Directive: Player safety and comfort is #1 The safety and comfort of all the players is the highest priority. This declaration is the first and most important of our safety tools. As no one tool or technique can anticipate every possibility, we’ll be making use of a few different ones. X Card The X Card is a safety tool used to ensure a comfortable gaming experience for all players. If any content during the game makes a player uncomfortable, they can type "X" into the chat or say "X Card" verbally to immediately stop the game and skip the content. This action is equivalent to raising or touching the X Card in a face-to-face game, signaling to the Game Master and other players that the current topic or scene needs to change without requiring further explanation. Lines and Veils Lines and Veils are safety tools used to create a comfortable and respectful gaming environment by setting boundaries on certain content. Lines are hard boundaries that must not be crossed in the game. These are topics or actions that are completely off-limits. Veils are softer boundaries where content can exist but will be handled in a less explicit manner, such as "fading to black" during sensitive scenes. Pre-established Lines and Veils Lines (Hard Boundaries) Explicit sexual content Sexual violence of any kind Slavery Racial discrimination Genocide Torture Veils (Soft Boundaries) Romance Extreme violence Imprisonment Players may establish additional lines and veils as well. This is my personal list, not meant to be a finalized list for every game and every person. Your boundaries will be respected. Open Door The Open Door policy ensures that any player can bring up a safety concern at any time during the game, and it will be addressed with the highest priority. This tool acknowledges that unforeseen issues may arise that make someone uncomfortable, and it emphasizes that the safety and comfort of all players are paramount. Players are encouraged to voice their concerns whenever needed, and the game will pause to address and resolve these issues, ensuring a respectful and supportive environment for everyone involved. Breaks Breaks are an important part of maintaining comfort and focus during game sessions. Typically, there will be one scheduled break roughly in the middle of each session to give players a chance to rest and refresh. However, players may call for a break at any time if needed. This ensures that everyone can take a moment to step away, especially if something arises that requires attention, promoting a healthy and considerate gaming environment. Stars and Wishes Stars and Wishes is a feedback tool focused on highlighting the positive aspects of the game and lifting each other up. Unlike other safety tools that aim to prevent harm, Stars and Wishes is all about celebrating successes and expressing hopes for future sessions. Stars: At the end of each session, players share what they enjoyed or appreciated. This can include standout moments, excellent role-playing, or anything that made the game fun and engaging. Wishes: Players also express their desires or hopes for upcoming sessions. This can be things they'd like to see more of, specific character developments, or new elements they'd like to explore. This tool helps create a supportive and encouraging environment, ensuring everyone feels valued and excited about the game’s direction.
