Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign
About the adventure
A dark fog comes over your camp. The trees are not the same. Everything seems darker, greyer, and dim. Wolves are hunting you, almost like they are herding you. You have no choice but to pack up camp and move. The path ahead is one you no longer recognise. Mist and fog lead you to a stately manor, alone. You do not remember it being there before. Afraid you will be eaten by wolves, you find yourself with a choice. To hide in the manor, or brave the strange and dark mists. Welcome to Barovia. Strahd awaits your arrival. This is a roleplay focused campaign that explores horror moods and themes, particularly inspired by gothic horror writings. Your backstory won't matter too much, but your choices, certainly do! There is a huge element on discovering whether your choices lead you down a much darker path than intended. Curse of Strahd for me is more about mood, tone and themes rather than character backstories, so do keep that in mind going into the campaign. I will do my best to include your backstory, but my style for this game is to focus on placing characters in moral dilemmas, and seeing how they develop as they face the horrors of Barovia. Will you succumb to the dark powers that be? Will you lose your moral compass or go mad with insanity in the process? Dark gifts and rewards are on the table, but at what cost? Be prepared to have backup characters in mind, as death is likely. Combat can feel brutal, however I will guide new and old players alike on how to work as a team, and overcome the realm that is Barovia.
Game style
Roleplay Heavy
“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.
Combat Heavy
“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.
Rules as Written (RaW)
Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.
We are at the second stage of the campaign with 1 major item found (but lost). Exploring the town of Vallaki and would be good to have someone join the game where they haven't had the chance to finish a campaign off and want to beat Strahd and explore the Western side of the map of Barovia.

How to prepare
A PC/ Laptop is needed with a stable internet connection. Ensure that you have a clear microphone that is working with as little background noise as possible. This is mandatory. You will need to join the discord server which will be provided when you sign up. On the discord server it will have the links to the campaign invite for D&D Beyond. You will need to create a roll20 account. The campaign invite link will be provided to you on the discord server. Once you are on the discord server, a character creation template and campaign guide will be provided to you. You will need to be able to read through this as it provides everything you need to know about the game and how to make a character.
What I provide
Here is what I offer: Ambient & dynamic background music through the web player Syrinscape. Free access to the players handbook, monsters of the multiverse, Tashas cauldron, & Xanathars Guide to Everything. No adverts on Roll20, as I have a pro account. Dynamic lighting and epic battlemaps. Aspiring Voice Actor - distinct voices for NPC's, but I'm no professional. I do try. I have now recently hired a voice coach to work on my voice acting skills. I am also trained in improv techniques. Interesting and dynamic combat encounters. Epic moments of descriptive horror, disgust and gore. Moments of shock. Light hearted moments in an otherwise dark and bleak horror setting. A roleplay focused game, with as little extra technology as possible, so we can focus on what matters the most: Playing the game!
Gameplay details
Prior to play, you'll want to have an account on roll 20 ready to go, as well as join up on the discord server. If you've not used these before then do not worry! Its fairly simple and I can show you how to use them as we go.

How will character creation work
I have provided a campaign setting guide as well as a player creation document specifically designed to help give me just enough information that I need to know. I share these documents via a google document link. Simply make a copy of the document, fill it in, and then send it back to me. The campaign setting guide will tell you everything you need to know about the setting so you can design a character that fits for you. In the character creation I ask for lines and veils. We will also cover what particular moods and themes you would like to explore in the campaign. Due to certain themes that I am aiming for, I have restricted Aasimar, non forgotten realms species. and monster hunter style species, or character concepts to help with setting the right tone I am aiming for. Generally speaking most species from the Monsters of the Multiverse is allowed.
