About the adventure

What is a Pendragon game? At its core it’s a game about Knights doing Knight Things and trying to live up to chivalric ideals. It’s about the central dichotomy of being a professional murderer and maker of war while also living within codes of conduct and poetic ideals that shape your every decision. It’s about Honor and Glory as well as how these are reflections of your actions as people. None of this requires it take place in Salisbury, England during the apocryphal rise of the Anglo-Saxons to replace the Britons as the culture of England. So I’ve decided to do just that. This game will take place in a setting truly alien and foreign, an American continent dominated by various powers and cities that resemble the setting of 5th century England of Pendragon lore enough that major changes won’t need to be made to the system to accommodate this. For full disclosure, this was inspired by the Crusader Kings 2 and 3 mods titled After The End (https://ck2.paradoxwikis.com/After_the_End).

About me

I have been playing tabletop RPGs for over a decade, and running the games I’ve played for nearly as long. I was introduced to gaming working at a ren faire as street cast, and the connection between the two has always been a part of my gaming. What that means is that I try to run games as a collaborative storytelling experience, working with the players to build a character driven narrative using my decade of improv experience. The result of this is a game and a story that is reactive to player actions. And despite my kind of auteur and philosophical approach, my instincts are sort of pure comedy and b-movie. I look to create entertaining setpieces and offer wild characters and story beats. Because in the end, I am just trying to have fun.

I've been playing in Karmic's campaigns for almost a year and a half now. Having hit the rough halfway mark in our longest running, game I can safely say that my time at Karmic's table has been some of the most fun, most satisfying and most engaging time I've spent playing RPGs. I'm thrilled to have had the chance to introduce a friend to this hobby through Karmic's games too. He's a spectacularly creative storyteller who does a great job at both allowing players and characters to shine while making the stories feel grounded and the players' decisions feel weighty and important. He has a real knack for responding to the unexpected or unconventional, something I really admire about his approach - if you can come up with some wild idea, and you can find a way to make it happen, Karmic will account for it and the world will respond accordingly in a way that feels believable and interesting. Coming in as a total newbie to both of the systems he introduced us to, I found his approach for explaining the rules and letting us learn as we go very approachable, comfortable and straightforward. That degree of approachability has allowed me to learn two new systems - one I've wanted to try but never got to, another I had never heard of, and I've grown really fond of both and I owe a lot of that to his guidance. There's something in his games for newbies and vets alike, and there's always something novel and exciting to be found or to be done in his sessions. I can't recommend him highly enough. 100% a Five Star GM!

Karmic is a really fun, enthusiastic and knowledgeable GM. As someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with system roleplaying games I have not had any problems learning from him thanks to his attitude and willingness to answer any questions I have. He creates really interesting stories and is a really funny too which helps. I 100% recommend him!

Karmicknight is friendly, supportive, and fun! He's got a great sense of when to roll with player suggestions and he makes sure everyone at the table gets attention.

Karmicknight really shines as a collective story teller. It is a group event after all and they don't use railroads; however, there are guidelines that they set as the GM. If you came up with a cool idea that is plausible, you'll get the guidelines and make your roll. Karmicknight is creative with what they put in front of the players, and comes up with interesting results for player actions while containing it to the plausibility of what can happen within any given setting they run. Overall, one of the best GMs I have ever had. Having played in several games that they've run, I would highly recommend karmicknight.

Karmicknight worked well with players to incorporate their ideas and actions - however unexpected - into a fun and satisfying session and campaign that dynamically adapted from the source material.

They encourage creative solutions to the situations they create and making fun scenarios even if the players plans didn't work out exactly how they wanted.

Character creation
Creating your character

Character creation will happen in the session zero to help bed everyone into the setting (and thus allow each player to expand on their corner of the setting while maintaining the collaborative nature). I cannot, nor would I want to, stop players from referring to the Crusader Kings mod that inspired this game.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

You will need a link to the discord. A working microphone.

What karmicknight brings to the table

So, I will provide a discord which will contain the necessary books and sheets to play the game. I will also provide visual aids for both characters and situations as they will occur. While I don't plan on abandoning the rules wholesale, I do enjoy naturally stripping away extraneous systems if they do not support the style of play that is being done.

Safety
How karmicknight creates a safe table

Players can expect a game in genre Crusader Kings (a game about dynasty rather than a singular character) as well as attempting to maintain a lighter tone than a lot of the subject matter would imply. The tools available to keep things on the light end of tone will be present in the discord.
