About the adventure
What begins as an investigation into a haunted house takes players into the domain of Barovia, ruled by the vile vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich. Strahd toys with his people and crushes those who oppose him. You and your fellow adventurers, having stumbled into this horrific domain by accident, are the only ray of hope in an otherwise bleak world -- and Strahd doesn't like things that give his people hope. He's noticed you. He'll likely invite you to dinner. Your grit, determination, cunning, and resolve will likely be the only things you can rely on in this otherwise shadowy realm. The question is, will you bring and end to the vampire's reign, or end up as his main course? This campaign will take characters from level 1-10+. 🔎Explore haunted houses, overrun graveyards, and crumbling strongholds ⚔️Battle twisted enemies and savage monsters ❓Learn the truth about Strahd's tragic past 🙍♀️Rescue an innocent soul from Strahd's clutches 🏆Destroy Strahd and free Barovia

How to prepare
You'll need a microphone, a Discord account, and a Roll20 account. I recommend using Chrome or Firefox when using Roll20. A webcam is encouraged, but not required. (I will be on camera during the session) If you're new to D&D (or just new to D&D on Roll20) this video shows how your character sheet works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugnIid8yb0A&t=46s Each player who comes up with a 1-2 paragraph backstory for their character will receive a free potion of healing. This can be done before or during session 0. As this campaign can be quite deadly, please prepare a backup character as well. Your backup character does not need to be the same class as your original character, but they should have some sort of relationship with the original character.
What I provide
Tons of material from Wizards of the Coast, Kobold Press, and MCDM A massive adventure with detailed battle maps, dynamic lighting, music, and sound effects Custom side quests A positive, welcoming attitude
Gameplay details
🤝🏼During session 0 players will create their characters & we'll establish how everyone knows one another. 🦺We'll also discuss safety tools during session 0. None of my games ever feature violence against children or sexual assault. 📑A Lines and Veils doc will be provided to all players in advance of the session. ⌛Each session will have one or two 10 minute breaks. 🗣️I have an open door policy, and will be available after each game to discuss any concerns anyone has. My House Rules: 1️⃣Each character starts with a free feat at first level. 🍾Drinking a potion can be performed as an action, or as a bonus action. If you drink a healing potion as an action, you recover the full amount of HP the potion provides. If you drink as a bonus action, you roll to see how much you healed. Feeding a potion to another player costs an action, and recovers the maximum amount of HP. 🔮Players not present during a session will have their characters swallowed by the Mists of Barovia, only to be brought back the next time that player can join. No time will pass for their characters and although they could potentially level up, they cannot benefit from a long or short rest during this time. Also, some rare magical items or other such things significant to the campaign could be left behind for the group to use while that character is gone. 🦸♂️Hero Points are in play. 🎯Critical hits - on a crit, you roll normal weapon damage, and add the maximum amount of damage the weapon can deal. E.g., you score a critical hit with a dagger, which normally deals 1d4 + your strength bonus. On a crit, instead of rolling 2d4 + strength, you roll 1d4 + 4 (the max amount of damage the dagger deals) + Strength. This results in crits that always deal higher damage than a standard damage roll. 🪙The Devil's Luck - at the start of each combat, the player who rolled the highest initiative will flip a coin. If the coin comes up heads, Strahd has taken notice of the party and a Tarokka card will be played. Each Tarokka card has different effects that can aid or hinder the party. If Strahd himself is participating in a combat, a Tarokka card is automatically played. My Table Rule: 🫂Be excellent to one another. Celebrate the critical hits, be supportive when fumbles happen, and all-in-all treat each other the way you'd like to be treated.

How will character creation work
Characters will start at level 1 and will be created in Roll20 using the Standard Array, using any of the sources listed below: 📕PHB 👀Xanathar's Guide to Everything 🧙🏼Tasha's Cauldron of Everything 🧛Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft 🐉Fizban's Treasury of Dragons 🧙🏼♂️Deep Magic 🐺The Beastheart 📜Arcadia Magazine (those issues which are currently in Roll20) A handout with links to all the above sources will be provided in Roll20. Each character also starts with a free feat (Note that variant humans will not be allowed, as two feats at first level would be a bit overpowered.)
