About the adventure

Explore some of the ultimate mysteries of the multiverse through an epic adventure for new or experienced players. Join a misfit band of heroes and embark on an adventure that begins on the road to the quaint frontier town of Phandalin but soon casts you across the planes to an impossible city at the heart of the multiverse. Can you resolve a fiendish mystery that calls into question everything you believe? Will you be brave and wise enough to set things right? How will you respond when an unprecedented multiversal “glitch” robs you of your memories and makes you a singularity of existential uncertainty? Can you survive a perilous trek across the multiverse to save all existence from annihilation at the hands of a sinister lich-god? Come join me in weaving an extraordinary tale that incorporates and expands on WOTC’s Turn of Fortune’s Wheel and Vecna: Eve of Ruin. It is designed for players of every experience level and for characters levels 2-20. We’ll explore Sigil, the City of Doors—an incredible metropolis where portals connect to every corner of the multiverse. We’ll venture to the Outlands, the hub of the Outer Planes, and discover wonders beyond imagination. We’ll even tread through the Outer Planes themselves, infinite realms brimming with celestials, fiends, gods, and the dead. Along the way, we’ll have fun exploring how philosophy and ideas shape reality itself in the D&D multiverse and face challenging dilemmas that will expand our perspectives both on what is and what ought to be. The possibilities – just like the realms – are endless.

About me

I am Donovan Wishon, a DM and educator. I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons for over 30 years and have been a DM regularly for the past two. I love introducing new players to D&D and creating fun, imaginative, and thought-provoking narratives together with players of all experience levels. I especially enjoy guiding players through Planescape adventures where they can explore all the wonder, weirdness, and possibility that the D&D multiverse has to offer. So join me in exploring heavens and hells, realms of chaos and order, fey courts and shadowlands, gate towns and astral seas, lands of gods and the dead, and an impossible city of portals at the heart of it all. In another incarnation, I am a professor of philosophy and teach a college course on “Dungeons, Dragons, and Philosophy”. Beliefs and ideas are at the heart of Planescape, and I am an enthusiastic tour guide for both its fantastical multiverse and the philosophical themes infused within it. In my games, philosophy is not just talk; it is choice and action. So even those new to D&D or philosophy will have a blast exploring ideas and their cosmic consequences. But ultimately players are the main storytellers in my games. I'm there to help them tell an epic tale that is exciting, entertaining, and enjoyable for everyone at the table.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters start at level 2 and will be created using Roll20. Character creation will occur either during our Session 0 or in advance in consultation with me. We will be using the point-buy option for stats. Most official character options are welcome. As the story progresses, you will also make variants of your character. I am happy to have individual meetings to discuss character creation in greater detail, and this will be required for all late joiners to the campaign. Alternatively, I will have premade characters available to use.

The current party

We will play 2-3 Sundays each month. The first session is free. The characters are currently 6th level and we are only a few sessions into a revised version of WOTC's Turn of Fortune's Wheel after completing several introductory adventures (including Vecna: Nest of the Eldritch Eye). Eventually, we will play through a revised version of WOTC's Vecna: Eve of Ruin.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You need a reliable internet connection, a working microphone, and preferably a mic/headset to reduce background noise (though this is not required). You’ll also need a Discord account for voice (https://discord.com) and a Roll20 account for use as a Virtual Table Top (https://roll20.net/). Basic accounts for both are free.

What Donovan brings to the table

I have a Pro level Roll20 account with a sharable compendium (including the 2024 Player's Handbook) and lots of pictures, tokens, maps, dynamic lighting, music, etc. I also bring a patient, positive, welcoming attitude for all and a wealth of knowledge about Planescape going back to its initial release in 2E. I have been playing D&D for over 30 years and have been a DM regularly for the past two. In a different incarnation, I am a philosophy professor who teaches a college course on “Dungeons, Dragons, and Philosophy” to new and experienced players of all backgrounds and abilities. In my view, philosophy isn’t just something to provide a bit of flavor for the ascendant Factions of Sigil. It is something meant to be at the heart of any good Planescape adventure, and I have redesigned Turn of Fortune’s Wheel and Vecna: Eve of Ruin to allow players to explore some of the most central philosophical themes in a fun and exciting way. I will also bring the D&D multiverse to life with vivid descriptions, an engaging cast of characters, interesting locales, exciting encounters, and even a bit of (nonprofessional) voice acting. Most of all, I will do my utmost to make sure every player has a good time, regardless of whether they are new or experienced with D&D. Safety

How Donovan creates a safe table

To ensure a safe and comfortable game experience, we will have a free Session 0 to introduce ourselves, discuss acceptable player and character interaction, and talk about any boundaries we have. We will also take brief breaks when needed for our comfort and well-being, and there will be an open door to let anyone come and go as they please for any reason. We will also reflect at the end of each session on what went well, any issues that arose, and what wishes we have for future sessions. I have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, sexual harassment, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or any other form of discriminatory behavior. Those who violate these standards will be warned and then removed from the game with no refund.
