Titans Rising

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

Across the diverse and mystical lands of Artemian, unexplained natural disasters have begun to wreak havoc: rivers overflow and flood the fields, fierce storms split the mountaintops, forests begin to freeze over, and unexplained quakes shake the earth. As the phenomena escalate, rulers from each land convene an urgent council to address these calamities. You, as representatives from one of these varied lands, have traveled—whether by summons or personal resolve—to this unprecedented assembly. With your unique skills and knowledge of the threat, you are tasked with investigating the source of the disturbances and resolving them before the land itself is torn apart. As you delve into ancient secrets and traverse treacherous terrains, you will uncover truths that challenge the very fabric of your reality.

The Game Maven does an incredible job giving each player a chance to do what they'd like, and with keeping things going both in and out of combat. Fun hook and story in a one shot and great combat mechanics. A very welcoming atmosphere that made it easy to get along with both DM and other players. I'll be joining for more games for sure!

Awesome dm. Really engages with the players to create an awesome narrative. Great for new players. Patient and doesn’t mind really explaining rules or helping with characters.

Shigé is easily one of the best game masters I've ever played with. Her ability to open her home and her fantasy worlds to strangers and build a community where players have agency, buy-in, and laugh-out-loud fun is an absolute delight to see. With atmospheric music and sound effects, terrain battle maps, inspiration tokens, and help with sourcing custom miniatures or dice for your character, it's hard not to get swept up in the story and be on the edge of your seat every session. She truly understands the spirit of the game, able to let each player shine in the narrative and take risks to change the story collaboratively. From beginners to seasoned players, you can be sure she'll welcome you with enthusiasm and do everything in her power to make sure you're having a ball exploring the world with her.

The Game Maven is amazing every time. She takes the time to make sure her players know how things are run. She helps us to understand the world around us, really telling the tale and building the story beyond the current dialogue and movement. She sets the mood with her voices, how she handles interactions, and always has music to add to the scene. It's incredibly fun and fulfilling playing with her.

How to prepare

All players will need to join the Discord server for ease of communication and story tracking. Players will be asked to create a free D&D Beyond account to communally join the one-shot - if for some reason the player can't or won't join D&D Beyond, the player can work out other means of character creation and joining with the DM. Players will need to read the session hook, create a character accordingly, take the safety survey, read the session rules, attend Session 0, and bring either a digital tool to read their character sheet or a physical print-out. If playing online, players will also need a webcam and working mic.

What I provide

Battlemaps, dice, note-taking materials, and generic minis will be available, though the players are of course free to bring their own dice and minis! Maven focuses on a balance of roleplay and combat, with an open-world style where the players decide the course of the story and there are as many ways to solve a problem as the players can think up.

Gameplay details

There will be a survey pre-game that only the DM will see where players can share any content they would like to avoid or have excluded from the game. During Session 0, any off-limits topics will be shared with the rest of the group along with the game rules. During a session, if anyone fails to follow the established guidelines, the DM will pause the play and remind the players of the boundaries before continuing. If the issue continues to occur with the same player, the game will be paused and that player will either be asked to leave or the session will end. Either way, there will be a debrief following the session. Players who forget or ignore the boundaries will be addressed between sessions outside the game by the DM. After two warnings - or immediately, depending on the severity of their actions - the player will be removed from the group and their character will be removed in a way that suits the story.

How will character creation work

Characters will start at level 3, depending on the experience and preference of the players around each particular table. Characters will be created prior to the session through a link to D&D Beyond. Any players who want help with character creation can arrive the hour prior to Session 0 for assitance (or, on a case-by-case basis, a player can request a separate time for character creation before Session 0). At a minimum, players must incorporate two characteristics to their character: 1) a reason and willingness to work in a group 2) a deep and driving motivation to engage in the hook quest How players flavor these characteristics is up to them, and I'd love as much backstory as a player is willing to give me! Those are just the minimum requirements necessary for a party member. Any character, session, or safety questions can be shared with the DM ahead of time via StartPlaying messaging or Discord server link.
