Friday Night Firefight | Cyberpunk Red | Beginner-Friendly
Cyberpunk Red | Campaign
About the adventure
A beginner-friendly open-table Cyberpunk Red. Beginner-friendly means I will introduce you to the rules and world of Cyberpunk Red as we play, and open-table means you can jump in at any point and bow out when you need to. The table will be relaxed so that the game can be intense. 🦾 High Tech//Low Life 🔪 Cyberpunk is equal parts nightmarish dystopia and techno power fantasy. You're oppressed but you have the tools to do something about it. A generation of punks that have grown up "speaking computer", that is the essence of cyberpunk. ☢ The Time of Red ☢ After the 4th Corporate War, where Arasaka and Militech finally unloaded on each other, the world has been shattered. Supply lines destroyed, the Net overrun with deadly AI and the centre of Night City an irradiated combat zone. A red haze hangs over Night City as the world tries to pull itself back together. Between the Corpos, gangs and radiation the only way to get what's yours is to take it. Will you go out in a blaze of glory, or fade away? 🏧 The Street Economy 💶 As a consequence of the 4th Corpo War, it's a lot harder to get things. Whilst there is plenty to go around, it's stuck in shipping containers, warehouses and trucks all across the globe. Nomads have become the backbone of commerce; recovering merchandise for sale at Night Markets. Night Markets are fixer-arranged swap meets to barter for all kinds of rare goods. That juicy bit of cyberware or hot new gun might be a trade away, but you'll have to work for it. This is the essence of Red.
This game will be every other week for flexibility. The current party consists of a Medtech, Nomad, Rockerboy, and Tech.

Had an amazing session zero + one shot in Cyberpunk Red with Luke. Like a typical ‘Great GM’, Luke was fully available / responsive outside of the game session (I.e., answering questions about rules and character creation, provide suggestions for the other new players, etc. Regarding the VTT, I was truly surprised at the end of the game session when Luke revealed how recently he’d started using Roll20. It was clear he put a lot of time into preparation and ensuring the game ran smooth; Our table had no business pushing the pace of the game as quickly as we did given these circumstances (technical hiccups were no greater than what you would expect in a game with an experienced Roll20 GM. Impressive!). Mission selection mechanics in between sessions involves players selecting from a list of missions (via popular vote), each with a brief description providing insight into difficulty, level of RP or combat expected, estimated number of sessions to complete the mission arc, etc. Very cool and again highlighted a great level of dedication. Regarding RP and progression, Luke encouraged us to flesh out the background and life path options so he could “…have inspiration and things to play with later on down the line”. If you’re looking for a dystopian Cyberpunk “jump in style” mission / session format, I strongly recommend joining Luke’s adventures. Good luck chooms!
Additional details
How to prepare
Required - Discord - A Roll20 account - Tell me your favourite piece of cyberpunk media so I can get a feel for your tastes Optional - A character. If you don't bring one we can do a pregen or run through "quick and dirty" character creation if the rest of the group would like. The app "Cyberpunk Red" companion will be a big help. Not required - Physical dice, character sheets, etc. We will be using Roll20s assets
What I provide
I will bring all the books and as many assets as I can squeeze into Roll20. Specifically battle maps such as CPR combat is very distance dependent and it helps me keep track.
Gameplay details
Lines and veils will be discussed before the session over Discord to make sure they are appropriate for the setting (for example if you draw a line at gun violence then cyberpunk probably isn't for you). Session 0s will be held for new players at the beginning of the session. Otherwise a quick casual debrief will happen after each session so you can discuss with me any issues, as well as Discord between sessions.

How will character creation work
I am a big believer in buy-in roleplay; players should only have to "act" as far as they are comfortable. My games emphasise problem-solving using your characters skills, the world and that mushy stuff between your ears. Combat will be a combination of quick theatre of the mind and bigger tactical skirmishes for important moments (depending on the job) with an emphasis on speed of play (relative to everyone's game knowledge) In terms of ✨vibes✨ here are some of my cyberpunk inspirations (by no means an exhaustive list). - Robocop for the hyperviolence and satire. - Brazil (the movie not the country obviously) for the oppressive atmosphere. - Ghost in the Shell for the tech and conspiratorial plots. - Blade Runner for the atmosphere. - Technobabylon for its take on hacker culture and the Net environs. - VA-11 Hall-A for its lighter elements.
