[5E 2024] Tyranny of Dragons: Rise of Tiamat

[5E 2024] Tyranny of Dragons: Rise of Tiamat

Dungeons & Dragons 5e | Campaign

About the adventure

The time of dragons dawns. Calling upon ancient magic and a host of draconic allies, the Cult of the Dragon seeks to unleash Tiamat from her prison in the Nine Hells. By bringing the Queen of Dragons bodily into the world, the cult plans to scour away their foes and usher in a new age of draconic dominance. You will join at level 10, using 2024 Character Classes (we are doing a hybrid) and do battle with the Dragon Cult, all the way to level 20, where you may face the Queen of Dragons herself! This game is welcome to people of all backgrounds, genders and orientations. If you have any issues with inclusivity, this may not be the game for you! Characters must be built in D&D Beyond (I'll send you the campaign link) and linked with Beyond20. You will have access to the full library of WoTC published materials. with classes, races and subclasses appropriate to the setting available. About Me I'm a DM with over 20 years of experience who's been playing since 2nd Edition and I strongly believe that the player's write the story with their choices and decisions, I'm just the editor that makes sure every player is getting the role they want in the story. While I sometimes may be using published materials, I'll often tailor the module to the players. This means that your choices in character creation will help shape the story, and veterans who may have played the adventure before might get a surprise or two! I believe in RAW and RAI, meaning your spells and abilities will do what they say they do, but I also support and encourage creative applications as well. I won't punish you for your build or your creativity, instead I'll find ways to make you feel challenged and awesome! I'm a fan of rich, fulfilling narratives, memorable characters with unique personalities and stories that will change based on your decisions, but I'm also a seasoned vet who's fought a battle or two and loves dynamic tactical combat. Depending on who is in the group and what your preference is, we can focus on either (or both!). We can play a session without a single roll of a die, or we can wage glorious battle through a gauntlet of cunning foes. The game you want is the game I'll bring to you!

Game style

Combat Heavy

“Combat Heavy” games emphasize the combat mechanics within their systems over roleplay or puzzle solving. There are frequent and longer battles with enemies and a greater emphasis on tactical game play.

Roleplay Heavy

“Roleplay Heavy” games place the focus on the story, the characters, and the world they live within, and tend to lean hard into the various roleplaying elements of the game. These games will frequently find the party talking with NPCs, exploring the personal elements of their backstories, or even having emotional moments around the camp fire.

Rules as Written (RaW)

Games that are ran “Rules as Written” emphasize realism and stick to the letter of the rules, allowing players to explore creative solutions while still operating under a consistent rule set. Players have the ability to utilize the rules in creative ways to create awesome characters and moments in the game.

Recruiting notes

We are using the D&D Beyond Materials, including Partnered Content, running mostly 2024 rules, but Homebrew may be approved upon review. One character is playing a Dragon Class they have homebrewed themselves and I have reviewed. The campaign is fairly epic and spanning longer time frames, but with some heated and intense combat. It utilizes the Franchise Rules from Acquisitions Incorporated, Downtime rules from Xanathar's Guide to Everything and an array of rules from various published sources, with a splash of homebrew from myself.

My group was on the verge of giving up on our D&D campaign until we came across Northern Dungeons. We had been through two campaigns with two separate GMs that fell apart as we encountered an issue of player voices being dismissed or ignored. We then decided to try one last time and go the professional route in hopes of finding a GM open to collaborating with players to create a world where we could finally tell the stories we had spent years crafting. Our group was very lucky to have come across Nothern Dungeons. Their energy, openness to ideas, and willingness to collaborate and work with their players to create something amazing are the exact qualities we were hoping to find in a GM. We wanted to play a mature game that addresses mature themes. Northern Dungeons has navigated this exceptionally well and has been attentive to our safety and comfort around the table. I'm a player who can go a little overboard with backstory and world-building as part of the creative process. I love to create living, breathing characters with rich histories and ties to the world they live in. It's nice to have a GM who is willing to go above and beyond to get to know the characters I've created and is committed to giving as much justice to them as they can. It has been a joy to play in session and see my characters finally come to life. If you are looking for a GM who is professional, does great voice impressions, and is dedicated to working with players to help them achieve their visions for their characters and the campaign as a whole, I believe Northern Dungeons would be perfect for the job!

Fistan is amazing at weaving a backdrop that you, the player, get to immerse themselves in and control. Interesting encounters and colorful NPCs help round out this already stellar experience. I could not recommend him more!

one thing i really appreciate is having a vision about my character and having a dm that not only helps me see that vision come true but will also make the vision brighter. they are homebrew friendly and have even made homebrew items, spells, and classes to help fit the vision. they are very descriptive in there story telling and world building. a small thing but something that always stands out is just the detail in some small things like the food a waiter may serve. dont play on a empty stomach you will be hungry lol. all in all if been a great 2 years running our current campaign.

The absolute best DM I have ever had. He has an insane knowledge of the rules, is an incredible story- and world-builder, and is amazing at improvising interactions during play. It is clear he really enjoys working with players to integrate their character into he overall game narrative. Any kind of game you want to play, he will work with you to make it fun and unique. Would recommend for anyone just starting out, or anyone who has been playing for 20+ years.

An amazingly creative GM. I have been playing with this GM for just under 2 years on a weekly schedule. He is both engaging and creative. As a brand new player in 2023 I was, kindly, walked through learning both how to play and the understanding of how to use the online platform. Questions and refreshers with character sheets and rulings are encouraged and supported. the GM has provided and cultivated a safe space for me to expand and grow in my own creativity. My Monday Night game has become a Joy and something I look forward to every week!
