About the adventure

In the Far North, there is a frigid expanse few dare to explore, let alone inhabit. This icy land of windswept tundra recently became locked in a perpetual, dark winter without reprieve. For two years now, Auril the Frostmaiden, the divine embodiment of winter's fury, has cast the land of Icewind Dale into perpetual cold and darkness. No one understands why the Frostmaiden has imposed her will in this way, or why the other gods refuse to challenge her. This prolonged winter threatens to doom not just the flickering lights of civilisation, but also the indigenous flora and fauna that need sunlight and the change of seasons to survive. Despite Auril's blizzards and other deterrents, visitors still come and go. Many of these can be described as outcasts of greater society, seeking work, solitude, or perhaps just a place to call their own. But there are also those drawn here by the prospect of adventure, aiming to uncover what ancient secrets this land keeps buried deep beneath the ice. Do you dare explore these frozen wastes? And if so... how long can you survive?

About me

Greetings, potential player! I am but a humble Game Master, seeking to play the games that I love with as many folks as possible. I've said in the past that "if I could run infinite games, I would". I adore rpgs - both from a mechanical and narrative perspective. They are pretty much my main passion project at the moment, and I wish to share that passion with all of you!

Character creation

Creating your character

The free Session 0 will provide an opportunity for all of the gathered players to make their characters, as well as broadly discuss any preferences they might have and what type of experience people wish to craft together. The initial characters will start at level 1. We will be using a custom rolling method to generate statistics, or people can choose to use a standard array. I will also share all relevant homebrew content that will further shape your character options. The character sheets will all be created and stored on the game's roll20 page. I will offer any and all technical support that is necessary during this process, including me making the character sheets and providing character "cheat-sheets", if necessary.

The current party

Every Saturday at 6 pm GMT. Free session 0 and pre-session 0 interviews. Once you sign up, you should see my Discord username in your Prep Materials.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The technical requirements are as follows: - a stable internet connection - an "okay" quality microphone (cameras are optional) - a Discord and a roll20 account (Discord is for audio, roll20 is for rolling, character sheets and maps) In case a player is brand new to the game (as in, no or little to no experience), let me know in advance and I'll make sure to be even more at your disposal.

What GM Anokir (Oto) brings to the table

Maps for combat and exploration shall be provided, as will any further media that might help enhance the experience. The big thing that I'll be bringing to the table is my Rules and Updates document that contains all of my assorted bits of homebrew.

Safety

How GM Anokir (Oto) creates a safe table

The main content one can find in this campaign will be based around the concept of surviving a harsh arctic environment, with many potential points of intrigue scattered around the frozen wastes. The players are encouraged to explore this icy sandbox at their leisure, free to carve out their own path and pursue it. However, the world is alive and breathing, and certain events will inevitably come to pass that would alter the landscape, raise the stakes, and introduce new challenges for the player characters to interact with. I will personally conduct a 1-on-1 "interview" with each player sometime before Session 0, in which you are encouraged to share any immediately pressing questions or concerns you might have, such as any hard lines or grey veils regarding particular content.
