About the adventure
5 player max An occult horror RPG about broken people trying to fix an equally broken world. The world of Unknown Armies is much like the one we live in however most people don't realize that magick is real, but it is. This game will begin in the late 1918. The great war has just ended. The Silence Era of Hollywood is in full swing. Ancient mysteries around the world have been shaken from ages long slumber. Magick blooms. In fact, reality as we know it is shaped by a group of 333 people so dedicated to certain attributes that they become the archetypes of the Invisible Clergy, who are locked in an eternal struggle for power. Your characters are pawns in this power struggle…or hoping to join the ranks of the Invisible Clergy itself. As your characters try to fix what is broken in the world, they might struggle against the New Inquisition, the Sect of the Naked Goddess, or their own deteriorating sanity. They might face vampires, godwalkers, or fellow practitioners of magick. Will they fall in the face of unrelenting opposition? Find out in Unknown Armies. I do charge a little more for my games because I limit my tables to absolute 5 players max. 5 is good but 4 is perfect. So based on my experience as a player here, and other GMs feedback, more often than not at least one sometimes 2 scheduled players will be unavailable for any given session and so you want to balance making sure the game will still run and not need to be cancelled with having a smaller table size. So i think that when playing online online that limit is the very BEST way to ensure that everyone gets a chance to shine at the table and pursue personal story hooks and connections

About me
I have been running games since the early 2000's in a large variety of systems from the standard d20's, to narrative dice, to percentile systems, to d6 and beyond. Love it all. So i think that when playing online online that limit is the very BEST way to ensure that everyone gets a chance to shine at the table and pursue personal story hooks and connections. I believe that the GM's primary job is to MAKE IT FUN!! A GM's job is not to say "no" and control and limit players. Like in theater improv the GM should be in the habit of saying "yes, and...". Now that's not to say that they players run the show and get everything and anything they want BUT it is essential to reward and celebrate player creativity and agency. So, my philosophy of running games is that I love telling great stories, I love awesome optimized characters (It's MY job to make it challenging), I love newbies, I love deep rich background and roleplays and I ABSOLUTELY don't think those things are mutually exclusive. Storytelling is collaboration. I also like my games to very narrative and cinematic and so prefer not to use a lot of maps or token. I like Theatre of the Mind. That doesn't mean I don't use or enjoy rich tactical combat...I just don't think you need a map to do it. I also love to reward player creativity in encounters and design "narrative/cinematic" encounters where players can use a wide variety of skills and abilities to overcome challenges. All races, creeds, LGBTQ+, Neuro-divergent, and everybody is totally welcome at my table! Let's roll!

Creating your character
3rd Edition UA has a built in structured process for Session 0 in which the players and GM collaborate to create both the world/setting and the PC's. It is so much more fun than a typical planning Session 0. You create your characters together step by step and then connect them to the world and each other. For example at one point in the session 0 you might be asked to create a location that your character has a personal connection to. You can literally come up with anything...a hidden goblin market where i bought my first spell...awesome. Then the next player may be asked to connect themselves to the market somehow as well. So on and so forth. It creates an amazingly detailed setting with tons of cross connections for everyone to play in.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need a microphone and roll 20 for rolls. However I have all 3 UA setting books as pdf and will share the players book with those who sign up. You will need to have read through it at least to some extent before session 0.
What Luke Andrew brings to the table
I rarely if ever use any sort of map or battlemap. I love cinematic and narrative theater of the mind. I also enjoy tactical combat I simply don't think a battlemap is necessary to do it.

How Luke Andrew creates a safe table
Unknown Armies is a modern occult horror game. Its a pretty unique setting but has some strong similarities to the online SCP community. Every SCP could be an Unknown Armies plot hook. There are hints of Neil Gaiman-esque ideas regarding archetypes and collective unconsciousness and synchronicity. Neverwhere could be an Unknown Armies adventure. It is also very reminiscent of the works China Mieville especially his novel Kraken (which I would swear is a straight up Unknown Armies campaign he played written into a book like they did with Greyhawk, but I can't prove it lol) Our setting for this particular game is advanced 25 years into the near future with a dystopian moving towards cyberpunk feel. Not quite today but not full blown blade runner yet either. Post-Capitalistic mega corps run amok, climate change is undeniable and killing people, and most first world economies have virtually collapsed due to massive wealth gaps leading to mass unemployment, rioting, etc. Many adult horror themes will be explored but sexual violence of any sort is absolutely barred and not welcome at the table. Bigotry exists in our setting but is not based on race or orientation or anything that a person is but is based on pure classism. People aren't hated for who or what they ARE, they are hated for what they HAVE or don't have.
