About me

I run homebrew settings based on Dimension 20 seasons such as Calorum from A Crown of Candy, Fantasy High, and the wide galaxy from a Starstruck Struck Odyssey. I also am interested in running Hyrule from the Legend of Zelda, Mario, Worlds Beyond Number and other themed DND campaigns. I have 2 years of professional DMing experience with many games within a wide variety of settings and arrangements under my belt, i'm down to have a fun, understanding and thrilling game of DND or SW5e anytime. Check out the world doc for Calorum for a taste of the flavour of my world building. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FZ8ChFWYeHE4v48u2RpoaP1NNbSkZfW0QSIg4MUnYi0/edit?usp=sharing.

Good for beginners with a very cool set and setting -- was able to convincingly mesh the DnD system with the Darkest Dungeon universe.

The Hill's expertise shines through in his storytelling, creating a captivating and enchanting galaxy for us to explore in a Star wars one shot. I highly recommend Hills.

Hills ran a SW5e game I was a part of for a Uni Club session and it was honestly great for me, it was my first time using that system and there was always time to go over something if i didn't understand and then right back into the mess of a space chase we were on. He's a great dm and a solid guy.

You can be assured that your backstory will be a part of the main story, he allows for players to come up with creative solutions to problems, however sometimes he can be a bit strict about some specific ruling. All in all he is one of the best GMs I've played with and I'm always looking up for his sessions

I'm from the RPG club in Otago where Tom is a member and he ran a SW5e oneshot for us and it was phenomenal. He was ontop of it at every stage, everyone got to explore their characters in super interesting ways, so many hijinks and we all felt that at anypoint if we got overwhelmed there was always space to back up and take a breather. From the moment we sat down at the table, we could see the excitement in our DM's eyes. He had put so much effort into preparing the adventure, and it showed in every detail. The atmosphere he created was perfect, with Star Wars-themed music playing softly in the background, and even some thematic decorations to set the mood. Highly recommend I know he's gonna do great things. Joel

Character creation
Creating your character

Character creation occurs with me understanding a baseline for what you want to get out of a character and to avoid crossing over too much with concepts or classes and to understand the communal dynamic before the first session.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Webcams are not required but have a set of headphones, a roll20 account up and running, some place to run a character sheet or their own sheet prepared separately. I don't require checking of rolls because we are all adults and we all understand sometimes you get bad ones and sometimes you get good ones and it is everyone's job as communal players to not fudge the numbers on bad rolls, the same way you can trust me as the DM to value that.

What Hills brings to the table

I will prepare games in roll20, I bring my own dice, plot hooks, plans, combat templates and battle maps for boss fights utilising dynamic lighting, maps, tokens and environmental storytelling. In addition I have a discord server for each of my games where players can discuss session, conflicts with scheduling can be discussed and the group can bond over memes and inside jokes. (if you want to destroy me with prepared plans to ruin my evil plans, may make a discord server just for players with the dm snooping about).

Safety
How Hills creates a safe table

Lines and Veils can be organised with me personally in direct messages to avoid having people to justify or explain issue they may worry about being judged for these triggers are then take to a private document and I make sure to avoid crossing lines in my planning and to bridge veils in a respectful and understanding way. Session 0 is alot about character creation, understanding homebrew mechanics, getting the party to interact and get on the same page about where we are roleplay wise, what level of immersion is comfortable and if the party would like a more gritty tone or a more comedic one because that is different for everyone. Personally X,N,O cards are sent through direct messages or if you are comfortable with it through voice chat to the whole group but I might send up an O card by voice chat to everyone just to gauge how people are feeling and if a break may be needed or a conversation broached with a fade to black.
