About the adventure

It was a land of wonders and miracles that Earth couldn't possibly rival and let alone match. It was a world of terror and cruelty that humans could only begin to imagine. It was paradise and hell, but above all a prison cell your captor threw you in. Somehow, someway you escaped. You might have thought you were the only one, but there were others. Many others. Some you call friends -a motley, in Changeling terms- but many more formed a community. A Freehold that protects each other from the captors from the other side of the Hedge, who seethe and rage at each and everyone of your escape back to the real world. But Chicago in 1982 isn't as you remembered it; it's darker somehow. Oh sure, it's reputation for corruption and double faced nature gave it the name "Windy City" for a reason, but you see more now. Outside of the heated campaign for mayor, poverty and racism haunting the city, you can see the hidden rot now. Servants of the True Fae on the periphery waiting to kidnap or kill any Changeling that makes a misstep, ghosts lingering in the Chi-Towns most infamous and notorious spots and landmarks, vampires pulling the strings behind mortal society and feeding off it's misery, and Werewolves paroling their turf like a gang, and the city at large with the bloated self confidence and righteousness of a police offer. If court rumors are true, there are even more creatures and monsters waiting in the shadows in this world of darkness. Something that concerns you very much, as your Freehold has been asked to finally cash out a favor they owe the local Vampire Prince of Chicago. Someone or something stole a treasure from one of the other undead leeches he calls in an ally and needs people in the know, with certain abilities and who can walk around during the day to go find it. A contract is a contract is a contract, which means your Queen was all too ready to agree and send your motley off to strike the debt from the Freehold's ledger. But remember: the place that changed you was a land of wonders and terrors that exceed even this world of darkness you now find yourself in, but all it will take to wind up back there is one false move

About me

Hey, did you just stumble on my profile? Looking for an interesting game that isn't DnD? While Dungeons and Dragons pioneered roleplaying games and a lot of us have fond memories or even in fun campaigns o at the moment, there are other genres and systems that are just as cool! If you and agree, and if you're looking for story-heavy games with adrenaline fueled, high octane action or a tense creepy atmosphere, you just might have found a GM right up your alley! For fifteen years I've run and played in a variety of games, and I hope to offer you all a fun time playing a variety of games outside of Tolkien-esque adventures. Whether that big as space truckers fending off pirates and braving black holes to make their fortune; as Werewolves patrolling modern day neighborhoods and their turfs, on the look out for strange, terrifying man-eating spirits; or even 1920's New England investigators who are about to stumble upon and learn about Horrors Man Was Not Meant to Know! I also try to run games with the spirit of the genre of the games too, so while usually my games will have plenty of fighting or action, it will Roleplay Heavy and has plenty of fun, motivated NPCs and settings, with mystery or exploration and/or other things that play to those games strengths. My games are friendly, safe spaces. Bigotry of any kind has zero tolerance, and tough/"controversial" subject manner that can make players feel uncomfortable will be vetted heavily before hand before being included or touched upon.

Character creation

Creating your character

During session zero the players and GM will come to collaborate and their characters and aspects of the setting together. It will be standard character generation and I discourage characters that are just minimaxed. You can think of story beats for a character beforehand, but that shouldn't be a big priority. WoD and Chronicle of Darkness games are very collaborative

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Just have the Changeling the Lost 2nd Core book. Storyteller is an easy system to grasp once you start using. As for characters, we'll make them together, but think of what type or kind of character you want to play as. You'll need a working mic for Discord and a PC powerful enough to run VTT

What John brings to the table

Foundry, VTT, and various books/materials for the game!

Safety

How John creates a safe table

Players will get plenty of action, role play and suspense in a horror-noir fantasy setting, but will focus just as much on the player's characters: how they survive and hope to thrive after having their lives taken from them and then altered forever, before they managed to claw it back and claim it as their own again. How do you deal with the knowledge you can make a new life for yourself, maybe even a better one, but you can't really go home again...let alone to that other place. Sessions will be centered a couple plot-central mysteries and a big conflict that ties things together, but will have to make motivated characters with goals that launch them into future adventures (and as a ST, I'll be there to guide and help them do so), with combat encounters sprinkled throughout. Social encounters and role play will be the bread and butter of this campaign
