About the adventure

"Empires rise and fall just like people. One day, they're mighty and strong, the next they're nothing but dirt for weeds to grow in. Same thing will happen to Talleran, mark my words. Maybe not in our lifetimes, but it'll happen. For now though, the Empire's ambition knows no bounds. Best be careful out here, friend," - Azir Sojani, Captain of the Lady of the Marsh. "But that's enough rambling from me. If I say much more they'll have my head." Azir turns back to the tiller. The wind is picking up now, and soon, a few crewmen unfurl the sails and tuck away the mud-crusted oars. To the east, three jagged, frost-tipped mountains loom, blocking out the horizon. The Three Widows. Beyond that lies the Empire of Talleran, full of vast flatlands and ancient forests, grand metropolises and dilapidated villages. Then, roiling seas teeming with storms and mighty leviathans, with pirates prowling the surface and merfolk below. To the west, the dark water of the lake and the stinking bog behind it is all that can be seen of Akrios. Beyond, you know you'd find nothing but drought-ridden badlands and hibernating volcanoes. Ahead lies your destination: the port city of Siltharbour. After that, you know not where you will travel. Adventure awaits, along with the promise of gold, glory, and power, but you know death is always a few steps away. With home behind you, all the world lies at your fingertips, if only you are brave enough to explore it. Welcome to Ienara. The focus of this campaign is to explore a dynamic and deep world, within a powerful empire that is continuously expanding. In terms of adventures hooks, I wait until characters are created to tie those into the story, rather than having some sort of doomsday event right off the bat, but many threats face the empire and the heroes within it.

About me

Hello my friends! My name is Andy, and being a Dungeon Master is one of my greatest passions. Ever since I was a kid, I've been a creative writer. I love creating new worlds, characters, and stories, and as soon as I discovered D&D, I fell in love with it. There's nothing better than sharing this passion with a group of enthusiastic and engaged players. My goal is to weave epic, character-driven stories with my players that leave us all thinking about it for days after the session. I take inspiration for my DM style from the classics, like Matt Mercer, Matt Colville, and Brennan Lee Mulligan. I have been a DM for almost 9. I have lots of experience with in-person and online sessions! When the pandemic hit, I pivoted from tabletop sessions to virtual, and have now logged over 200 virtual sessions clocking in at about 900 hours. I decided to I am well-versed in D&D 5e, and have taught many new players the game. I am very beginner-friendly and love to teach D&D to others! I'm happy to assist with character creation, both mechanically and story-wise. I use Discord and Roll20 to run games and put character sheets on D&D Beyond (with content sharing turned on). My campaigns offer a solid mix of roleplay and combat, but what is most important is the characters. Combat pushes the narrative forward, develops characters' story arcs, and challenges them to grow. I love building adventures and campaigns around characters' backstories, and combat reflects that! Of course, combat is also awesome, and I love tactical, memorable fights that challenge the players. I run campaigns in my homebrew world of Ienara, which I have been building for 5 years now. I love working with players to develop aspects of this world, so that their character can truly feel like a part of it. Want your character to be from a floating city in the middle of the ocean that did not previously exist in Ienara? Let's do it! The world is dynamic, and I like to emphasize that this is a collaborative story. Me, the DM, and you, the players, help Ienara develop its lore through the sessions that we play together. Your characters are not just plopped into a premade homebrew setting - they are part of its canon, its history, and its future! I run games RAW, but I use the rule of cool and am also a fan of homebrew. I do some homebrewing myself, as well. Want to create a new spell? Sure! Have a homebrew subclass you want to try? Let's test it out! The most important thing is everyone enjoys their characters and has fun. If this sounds like the right fit for you, let me know! Let's weave some unforgettable adventures together!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters are currently level 4! Characters should be created on D&D Beyond in the campaign link I will provide. A free feat was available to all players at level 1, so anyone who joins will be able to take that extra feat as well!

The current party

Every Sunday at 7PM EST! While we are 14 sessions into the campaign, we are open to adding a new player, and with a sandbox-style campaign, introducing a new player will be seamless. The party has just hit level 4, and includes a cleric, a bard, a barbarian, a paladin, and a rogue. Beginners are welcomed and encouraged to join.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should have a mic, and a webcam is ideal. A general idea of the rules is good, but I am happy to help learn. I will assist with character creation virtually on D&D Beyond, so no printout is necessary. I can also pregenerate a character if players do not want to make their own. The only thing players need to install is a plugin called Beyond20 that allows D&D Beyond rolls to transfer onto Roll20.

What Andy brings to the table

All dice, maps, battlemaps, and artwork will be virtual. Dice will be rolled on Roll20, and gridded battlemaps will appear there as well.

How Andy creates a safe table

Players can expect intense combat, character-driven roleplay, and an expansive, sandbox style world for them to explore. Combat is almost entirely run on digital battlemaps, and I run things according to Rules as Written of 5e. However, I love the rule of cool and am open to creative solutions to combat. No experience is necessary - I will work with you to build a character that matches the lore of the world.
