Contest of Champions | PVP Deathmatch SPECIAL GAME - Game of Preparation!
Dungeons & Dragons 5e | One-Shot
About the adventure
The Festival of Coronation occurs annually in Raalphan, and with it the Contest of Champions! You've put yourself forth as a contestant in the qualifying game, ready to compete for fame, glory, and honor! Even at the lowest levels of this tournament, the arena, monsters, traps, treasure, and contestants are never the same twice! The rules are simple; each champion (your character) is chosen by a patron (that's you, the player) to enter the contest. While the Contest of Champions consists of several games with different rules, this qualifying game is a single game from the larger event's list of possible modes, in this case; Deathmatch. Champions will be tasked with defeating each other in battle, and for each opponent downed they will receive one point toward their score. When a player goes down, they revive on their next turn, fully rested and ready to fight! The player with the most points at the end of a two hour (real time) game wins and is awarded a Coronation Medallion, which Patrons may exchange in future games for items they can arm their champions with. But in this session there's a twist, a special ruleset devised just for this match! Perhaps we're testing out a new rule, maybe we're trying a player suggestion, or could it be that we've just lost our minds and are throwing anything we like at the wall and seeing what sticks?! There's only one way to find out! Today’s special ruleset is: Perilous Pets! Bring your familiars, your mounts, your canine companions! Spells and features that would normally take minutes or hours to summon your furry or feathered friends instantly apply when you appear or reappear in the arena in this special mode! Please note that if you don’t have a spell or feature to summon a companion, you can still purchase one with the rest of your equipment. Certain limitations may be applied based on the DM’s discretion (i.e. - spells such as conjure elemental and conjure animals are not applicable). So come one, come all! Let the challengers step forth and let the games BEGIN!

Additional details
How to prepare
You will need a mic, Roll 20 account, D&D Beyond account, and Discord (downloading it isn't needed, but helps). It isn't necessary that you be a master of the game, however I am going to ask that you at least know the basics of how to play. All dice rolls will be digital; no at home rolls will be accepted. Also get the Beyond 20 add on for chrome if you don't have it already, since we're going to be using both DnD Beyond and Roll 20. If you have any trouble with these systems or need help learning their basics, message me and let me know and I'll help you figure stuff out. All links relating to Discord, Roll 20, and D&D Beyond will be automatically forwarded to your player dashboard here on StartPlaying.
What I provide
I'm bringing every character creation option in DnD Beyond, a campaign link you will be able to make your character with online, all the Roll 20 virtual maps we'll be using for the games, and several spreadsheets filled with arenas, monsters, treasures, and traps to ensure no arena game will be the same twice.
Gameplay details
This game is one of several in a series of arena-based PVP challenges. It is not required that a player have participated in another qualifying game, preliminary game, or Contest of Champions game in the series prior to playing this game. If a player decides to play another game in the series after this, they are not required to use the same character. The game mode, arena, traps, treasures, and creatures involved are decided randomly, so no arena game is the same game twice, letting players come back and have a new experience each time they play. In the Deathmatch game mode, players face off against one another in combat. The arena may have traps and creatures spread throughout it to engage players and make them think tactically about their confrontations, however the main focus of the game is to take other players out. When a character is killed or otherwise incapacitated, they are immediately teleported to a random spot in the arena and revived as though they've taken a long rest, to ensure players can jump right back into the game. I'll be using the Open Door safety tools for this game. If at any point you're uncomfortable and need a break, feel free to take one, no warning necessary. I'll also try to take a break midway through the game to ensure players don't get too worn out.

How will character creation work
I will give you a DnD Beyond campaign link to make your character with (you will need to have a DnD Beyond account before clicking this link). All character creation content will be available to you; if you see something missing, let me know and I'll change that. The only races I'm not allowing are races that have a flying feature, the only spell I'm not allowing is silvery barbs. All classes, feats and cross-classes are on the table. You will be given gold to equip your character with general equipment; do not take starting equipment, and do not buy magic items beyond potions. The only limitations I'll be placing is that stats are decided by point buy, and take the Average health calculation. If there are items or equipment that don't have a listed cost or you're unsure about, ask me and I'll see about allowing/pricing them for you. And no, you can't choose guns. VERY IMPORTANT: ON THE FIRST PAGE OF CHARACTER CREATION, ALL THE WAY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE, MAKE SURE YOU TOGGLE CHARACTER PRIVACY TO "PRIVATE". This ensures only YOU and I will be able to read your character sheet, unless you want the extra challenge of your competitors potentially knowing everything about you. If you want help building a character we can arrange for a solo character building session; what your character is and can do should be a secret from other players. I'll also want you to pick out a token for me to put into the game ahead of time and send it my way.
