About the adventure

đŸș Wolves hunt in the night. Many dangers lie in wait for the unwary in Myrkvid Forest, but none so fearsome as Rukdolf, the Winter Wolf. For years the legend of the great White Wolf has been told around the campfires and in the tavern halls, for so long that even the old graybeards cannot remember a time when Rukdolf didn't haunt the long winter nights. His howls fill the dark cold of the nights, but few have seen him and lived to tell the tale. Those who did have refused to enter the woods ever again, for Myrkvid Forest is Rukdolf's domain. In the past, there were attempts to hunt him and his pack down...but no one was able to come close. On the edge of the White Wolf's forest kingdom sits the village of Beruvik, where the townsfolk have lived under the shadow of fear of Rukdolf for many years. In time, they’ve created a tradition of leaving sacrifices of their hunts to appease the wolf and permit them safe passage. A symbiosis developed between Wolf and Man, as interlopers and bandits would quickly meet their end in Rukdolf's forest, while Beruvik's hunters would be allowed free passage. This year, though, is different. Winters in Northreach have always been harsh and unforgiving, but this winter has been particularly harsh, and the sacrifices are becoming fewer as pantries become bare. The extreme cold is driving burrowing animals deep underground in pursuit of survival, while the unfortunately exposed forest creatures such as deer are freezing solid in their southward trek to flee the cold, and pack animals huddle together for warmth. Meanwhile, the wolves are getting hungrier. The Hawk Clan’s winter stores are looking to be less adequate as the days go by and the hunters, out in greater numbers to stave off impending famine, are starting to be attacked more often by wolves. In desperation, the dashing young Jarl Brand Einarsson has put out a reward for anyone brave enough to hunt down and kill the legendary White Wolf: Rukdolf, who has stalked the land and eaten men whole in just a single bite. The warriors who would kill such a beast would surely become legends in their own right. The promise of wealth awaits them, triumphant should they be, as does the mantle of legend. With everything at stake, will you take up the mantle to become one of their party?

About me

Hey, nice to see you!! I'm Bandeena: a part-time GM who started as a writer and a player, looking to incentivize myself to perfect this craft of Storytelling. For me, TTRPGs are the perfect tool for collaborative writing with a complex prompt--the ultimate Choose-Your-Own Adventures--but in truth they're something much more than that. D&D is social and therapeutic, providing friendship and creativity at a time when it seems the whole world is scared and barely scraping by. I started TTRPGs as many do: as a player in a D&D game. I was 17, and I was playing with a cadre of mixed-generational LGBTQ+ and POC inclusive community college students. It was magical. But when I went to university far from home, I had to leave that behind and find my own people in a new place. That's when I became a GM. I collected my colorful bag of players like dice, and built some true, lasting friendships. It's been more than a decade since then. While I intend to focus on running D&D 5e for the foreseeable future, my first game DMing was 3.5e D&D. I tried my hand at some White Wolf content in the years since, but D&D and Pathfinder were my bread and butter. I took a break for several years to get married, have kids, work a soul-sucking corporate job...and then, in the height of the pandemic, 5e shined some light back into my life. It helped me to refocus on home, family, and happiness. And I want to share it and some of the happiness it's brought me, as I used to in ages past. This is how I approach my games: I set the scene on the frame of [usually published] material--I describe it, fill it with scripted meat-bags, gather together a band of merry players...and then my players breathe life into it all. Together, we shape the world we visit weekly as an escape or an outlet (it's something different to everyone). We make it our own, and with each game, something unique and beautiful is crafted. I try to cater the story and difficulty to each party, and make each experience custom.

Character creation

Creating your character

Prior to the session, players are to create a 3rd level character using published content with the following features: - Standard Array or 27 Point Buy - 1 (and only 1) starting feat - Starting equipment - 50gp to purchase additional gear

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a functional microphone and a space with either minimal background noise, or the mute function, or the capability for push to talk. Roll20 will be the VTT used in this one shot, so a free account on that platform will be necessary as well. Characters are to be made at least an hour prior to the session start time, complete with an image for the VTT token that will represent your character. Character sheets may be hosted on D&D Beyond by player request.

What Bandeena brings to the table

I bring the game! I bring all the necessary maps and books with a nearly-complete Roll20 compendium and a Pro account. I also bring a discord server with a network of other players and GMs for those looking to play more D&D!

Safety

How Bandeena creates a safe table

Players will be provided a Session 0 document to review before the session, and can request that the X-Card system be added to the game. The session will begin with a short Lexton Technique discussion about triggers, ethics, and content warnings, in which every player will have a say. After this, we roll into a one shot dungeon crawl filled with danger and mystery.
