About the adventure

This is a campaign from about levels 1-15 using: Candlekeep Mysteries Keys From the Golden Vault The Game Master's Book of Legendary Dragons by Jetpack7 ©2023 Maps by CzePeku; patreon.com/czepeku. Kiennavalyriss, an half celestial half dragon prefers a horde of knowledge, tomes, and artifacts over a mountain of gold. She keeps this horde within Candlekeep, which only a few like the players know of or have even visited. While she does not hold a highly favorable view of them, Kiennavalyriss contracts adventurers into small teams that maintain and expand her horde, gathering the world's information and protecting the dangerous elements from falling into untrustworthy hands. It is said any quandary facing an individual, institution, or nation could be answered by the collective contents of Kiennavalyriss' collection; perhaps even burning questions that the player might have themselves. To be able to access the knowledge of the library, adventurers must prove their trustworthiness to Kiennavalaryiss by completing her contracts, and therein lies the story. I am aiming for a bit of a 'artifact' of the week feel with a good balance of combat, roleplay, and puzzles, with elements of mystery, humor, a heartfelt moment here and there, though of course the players really guide the story.

About me

Hello Adventurers! My name is Jared, I have been playing D&D for about 4 years now, though I started off listening to actual play podcasts for a few years prior, and I have been playing games of all sorts since I was little. I am new to online DMing but have played on here for a year now, and in home games I have DMed a year long campaign and many one or two shots so far. I have a background In Counseling Psychology, Sociology, Women and Gender Studies, and Queer Theory, so intersectionality and inclusivity have always been a cornerstone of my work. What drew me to D&D and TTRPGS in general was storytelling. The nature of communal storytelling brings out such creativity and enjoyment in life that I have been wanting to delve deeper into it for some time, and now I am taking those steps. I also like a good and challenging combat from time to time with my stories, and am happy to work with the table to tailor adventures to their liking. So, join a session, lean into the characters and the stories, and lets have some fun!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will occur during session zero together so as to allow for the needed level of cohesion for the party to start with since they will have already worked together in the context of the story for a short while. For this adventure/campaign I want to stick to official dnd content when it comes to character creation. Generally though, I am not concerned about the likes of spell components, encumbrance, or anything that bogs down the narrative.

The current party

Weekend game, session zero is free, first two sessions are discounted!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

- Please have a free discord and free owlbear rodeo account ready for session zero as we will have the opportunity to get into some of the game right off the bat. - Please have a working mic, and stable internet connection, and be mindful of your gaming environment to the extent that you can, so that background noise and the like are limited. - Webcams are not required, and we can discuss their use.

What Jared brings to the table

I will bring maps and digital dice via owlbear rodeo and CzePeku and other maps, a personal collection of all the official d&d books, ambiance and sounds via kenku fm, a good faith attempt at some npc voices, and the flexibility needed to roll with whatever the game and life throws at us.

Safety

How Jared creates a safe table

In session zero we will go over setting, themes, and character creation, as well as review any safety tools needed. Players will be expected to be inclusive and understanding of the game space and my 'table' as an area with no tolerance for prejudice, discrimination, hate speech, -isms and -phobias, etc. Creativity and art which includes D&D are inherently inclusive and rooted in the experiences of disenfranchised groups of people, so keep in mind, if you're going to the circus, expect clowns, expect an owlbear on a tiny bike, and expect some genders and races and identities, etc. Players will need access to a free discord and owlbear rodeo accounts, and a useable and clear microphone as a minimum. Webcams are not required and video chat can be discussed in session zero. I do not currently have a digital compendium available for characters, I own almost all of the physical D&D books, and we can use them in character creation, I recommend using a free dnd beyond account, an editable pdf, or paper, or whatever character sheet you prefer to use. Rolls will be made inside owlbear rodeo with players adding their modifiers in, its very simple and effective.
