About the adventure
If history is written by the victor, then war is the script in which it is written. The brutal commonality of conflict on the continent of Aylith stretches to every corner of the land; from the traditional streets of the island city-state Aizen to the vast Tzotzil Empire and everywhere in between. Traversing such a tumultuous climate is difficult under the best of circumstances, and nearly impossible under any other. Many are forced to find less-than-legal methods of surviving such a harsh landscape; smuggling, extortion, drug dealing, and even murder are common tactics utilized by the unfortunate people of Aylith, even with the risk of getting caught. For you, such a fate has already occurred; after a job gone bad you've ended up in the hands of the Republic's elite military police, a group known as S.P.E.C.T.R.U.M. But while your current situation is dire, it is not without hope; the Republic is anything but wasteful, and your talents are indeed useful to them. You've been given an ultimatum by the movers and shakers of the Republic; help discover what really happened to the research town of Farcross and you'll earn your freedom...if you survive. Good luck. Tales of Aylith: Price of Freedom is a western steam fantasy take on D&D 5e where players will be forced to fight tooth and nail against the various horrors of a vast, forgotten research facility and uncover the true nature of what lurks in the decrepit labs.
Additional details
How to prepare
Players should have there own character sheet or software that they can use to keep track of said character, as well as dice and potentially a notebook. Access to Discord, Roll20, and Zoom are a must, though free accounts will work just fine.
What I provide
I possess a paid Zoom and Roll20 account and as such will use both to run the game. Additionally, I do keep track of player information for my own use when creating encounters.
Gameplay details
Tales of Aylith is a custom setting based loosely off of the North American old west, as well as the golden age of piracy and the end of the age of samurai. Due to its historical influences, this campaign has many running themes that intersect with inequality, slavery, and social injustice on a large scale. While these subjects may or may not be tethered to the main story of this campaign, it is important to note that they will at the very least be background noise to the events that unfold. Please note that just because I include such subject matter within my game does not mean that I am trivializing or condoning them in any way. To be blunt, the slavers and bigots in this setting aren't present to add "realism" but rather they a present in the same way that Nazi's are present in the Wolfenstien video game series; meaning that they are meant to be mowed down by players.

How will character creation work
Character creation will be set up via the campaigns discord and will be free for the potential players. Player need to manage their own PC sheets and keep track of their own abilities, though the shared discord server was created to help with that. Rather than roll stats, players will have the starting array from the D&D Player's Handbook (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8, plus an extra 11 if the players decide to utilize the home-brewed Morale system available to them).
