About the adventure
The name of the game is simple. The goal of this adventure is not to overthrow the corrupt king or destroy the lich's deep dark dungeon, but instead to learn to play this incredible game and have fun doing it. This is the perfect session for beginners or veterans who want to learn more about the new Dungeons & Dragons 2024 rules. We will cover all the basics starting with character creations, and then jumping into social encounters followed by quick combat all in a small, simple, and enclosed space. Hopefully, by the end, you feel confident enough to try out another adventure!

Meet the Game Master
About me
I have been creating my own fantasy worlds since I could hold a pencil. I have been GMing for about four years for various groups from the fabled one-on-one to the chaotic group of seven, so I am ready for just about anything. I originally started playing D&D in a summer camp when I was 12. I think at that time it was 3.5E. I remember being hooked after that and spending hours in various libraries and bookstores poring over the Monster Manual and Player's Handbook pages. I got chances to play here and there throughout life until I finally decided to take up the mantle of Dungeon Master. I have my own fantasy world called Morwynn that I have worked on for years and love to explore, but I always focus on what is best for the characters and players at the table.

Creating your character
Character creation will be a guided process that aims to give players the tools to go forward and make their own characters the next time they play. While the discussion might touch upon the more complex character classes like Wizard or Sorcerer, for this experience, the focus will be more on the basics like Fighter, Rogue, or Barbarian.
This highly customizable one-shot focuses on learning the basics of Dungeons & Dragons. We will walk through character creation together and then unleash your characters onto the world! Or more specifically, a tavern.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players do not need to do much to prepare. Sign up for a free account on D&D Beyond for the character-building process and sign up for a free Discord account to join the video call. A Roll20 account is optional but not necessary.
What Mattherus brings to the table
I will share access to a plethora of character options on D&D Beyond, as well as the knowledge, experience, and patience that is needed to guide people through their first time playing.

How Mattherus creates a safe table
Session 0 will cover what to be prepared for and an open-ended discussion about what makes you uncomfortable. Notes taken from this session will influence the game. Of course, at any point during Session 0 or the eventual game, players are welcome to share thoughts or concerns as the game isn't meant to be incredibly immersive. There will be a lot of questions and answers as the game progresses that might disrupt the flow anyway, so it's safe to say that any concerns are welcome at any time.
