About the adventure

Have you heard your kids talking about Dungeons & Dragons but you don't even know where to start? Whether you're not sure if Dungeons & Dragons is a good fit for your child or you feel it is a good fit but your overwhelmed with the complex rules and number of options, this seminar can help answer all the questions you may have about the game. The practice of intentional 'play' has an important role in the development of any individual and I've been learning the benefits a game like Dungeons & Dragons can have in teaching various social, emotional, and problem-solving skills. Through trainings like Game to Grow's "Applied Role-Playing Games For Community Members" and the National Council for Mental Wellbeing's "Mental Health First-Aid", I've gained an understanding of the need for a creative healthy outlet like Dungeons & Dragons. In the seminar I will provide a background of the game itself, discuss the beneficial aspects of the game, provide advice on how you and your child can learn the rules, explain the differences between playing in person or online, and offer suggestions for which products to invest in (depending on the age of the child and your intended budget allowed). While this seminar has a lot of content available, a majority of the time will be spent diving into the specific topics or questions you have for your specific situation.

About me

Hello fellow adventure lovers and welcome to Quills & Quests, a tavern dedicated to the telling of stories! Bards, scribes, playwrights, and historians travel from all across the land to hear first-hand accounts of valiant quests from the heroes that also frequent our halls. We know that every hero has a story worth telling and we can't wait to hear yours! My name in Andru the Author and I'll be your guide. While I've only been GMing for a little over three years, I've recently discovered my past experiences have actually been preparing me for the joys of being a D&D GM. As it turns out, I've been practicing storytelling, voice acting, and refereeing tabletop games for decades. I have hosted a lot of in-person and virtual game nights from my own collection of over 100 table top games. I always enjoy devouring the rules for those games in order to teach everyone how to play while maximizing the enjoyment at the table.

Character creation

Creating your character

No characters will be needed for this as it's just a seminar. However, if you're ready to dive into how creating a character works, I'll be more than happy to walk you through that process to either have a new character for your child or one that you can play with them!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

No prep is needed other than having a good mic for the Zoom call (video is fully optional depending on your comfort level). You're welcome to message me on StartPlaying with any questions you have ahead of time so I can make sure and prepare thorough answers for you in advance.
