About me

One of the first RPGs I ever hosted as Dungeon Guide was I6: Ravenloft back 1988. I've been running games ever since, following the flow of DND releases and more than a few non-fantasy titles. I'm excited to share this experience you and your party. My table features: * Frequent rich role play opportunities * Challenging and engaging combats * Quality storytelling * A Dungeon Master with over 30 years experience * A collaborative and inclusive gaming table *Seamless online play without downloads or VTT learning curves * Respect as a player and collaborator When I run a game I like to focus on story, fun, and excitement as well as keeping my table fully inclusive to players of all backgrounds, experience and lifestyle. I blend premade maps with quick sketches and theater of the mind. For a sample of my DM style, you're welcome to drop by my twitch channel (Lantern Noir) or my YouTube channel (Lantern Noir Presents) and see the games that I have run live on line. I ask that all of my players recognize that we want to have a welcoming, positive, and safe table. To keep the game as accessible as possible I focus on easy to use tools, and supports such as DND Beyond and Owlbear Rodeo. These are blended via broadcast software into the Zoom call so you can dive right in on the action. I welcome new and old gamers to the table and am happy to teach gaming to newcomers as well as engaging the veterans.

Character creation

Creating your character

Starting characters will be created at session 0. For experienced players, please use Point Buy or Standard Array. New players will be guided through the process at session 0 if joining new. In addition we will be using a "shared background" story to bring the party together at the onset. This will include discussing our character's motivations, history, family, and friends. We are trying to avoid the classic "you all meet in a tavern" and instead begin with a common "we've got a reason to trust each other". Those joining later in the campaign will be contacted prior to their first session to set up a character. At the first session with the group there will be a short round of introductions and a review of the stories so that everyone at the table can feel welcome and engaged.

The current party

Mondays 8pm EDT There will be shared backstories among the party. Message the DM here or on Discord for more information.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please have a good mic and a working knowledge of zoom etiquette. Cameras are optional. We will be using DND Beyond for virtual character sheets and digital dice rolling. Our VTT will be shared via the zoom call but a link to the Owlbear Rodeo will also be provided for those who prefer to use it. The goal is to keep the game as easy for you to enjoy and engage with as possible.

What Rob aka Lantern Noir brings to the table

Using skills learned while streaming my games on Twitch, I present everything you need from a VTT to combat tracking on the Zoom call itself. There are no additional downloads or VTT learning curves to master. My goal is to make engaging in the game as simple and straight forward as possible. Weekly we'll have engaging stories, new adventures and rich tales. Encounters will be tailored to the party and custom side quests are possible. As the campaign goes on, I will be happy to coordinate with an artist for custom work of your characters. I am also happy to share the custom maps I make with the group after each chapter is complete.

Safety

How Rob aka Lantern Noir creates a safe table

Playing each week we will be exploring multiple adventures in the Ghosts of Saltmarsh book and beyond. If the party finds itself drawn in a direction, a new story can be developed, unique to our table. As such everyone is expected to be respectful of other's time, character and person. The table is also LGBTQA+ inclusive, and sensitive to a diverse collection of players. This includes players of a variety of skill and experience levels from Blue Cover edition through modern 5E newbies.
