About the adventure

Deep beneath the surface of the world lies the Underdark, a realm of endless labyrinthine tunnels and caverns where the sun never shines. The Underdark is filled with races and creatures too numerous to count or list, and foremost among these are the dark elves—the drow. Hated and feared even by their fellow dwellers in darkness, the drow raid other settlements in the Underdark as well as the surface world, taking prisoners back with them. Rendered unconscious with drow poison, then collared and shackled, these prisoners are eventually sold as slaves or entertainment in the dark elves’ subterranean cities. Out of the Abyss is a challenging and epic (levels 1-15) adventure with an early survival/horror element. Will you live to tell of the horrors of the Underdark, your Drow pursuers, and the growing threat of a demon incursion?

About me

What's good, adventurers? I’m Nicolae, a full-time Dungeon Master with over 11,000 hours logged on Roll20 and about 1000 games run on StartPlaying. From mastering macros and APIs, introducing intrigue, to weaving tactical combat encounters, I bring depth and efficiency to every session. My goal is to deliver immersive storytelling where your characters truly shape the world—no two games are ever the same. Inclusivity and respect are at the heart of my table. I strive to ensure each player feels heard and has a genuine impact on the unfolding narrative. Whether you live for intense role-play, thrilling battles, or creative problem-solving, you’ll find a warm, open environment where you can shine. Beyond the tabletop, I’m a musician and producer pouring that same passion into my art. If you'd like a glimpse of my musical adventures, follow me on Instagram or TikTok @musicbyNicolae. Dope. Now let's roll some initiative! Join me, and let’s create stories you’ll be talking about long after the dice have finished rolling.

Character creation

Creating your character

The Characters will be built in Roll20, or imported there from DnDbeyond. You can use the Charactermancer or edit directly, dragging features and items from the compendium, with access to all published character content through my compendium sharing either way. We will use a customized point buy and house-rule bonuses that make for fairly powerful characters, but the steps will be outlined in Discord.

The current party

A renowned Dwarven King calls for an audience with the factions of the Sword Coast and some of it's bravest adventurers. The presence of demons threatens to overwhelm the gates of the inner-mountain city and spill onto the surface of the Sword Coast. Answer the call, and lead an expedition against the Rage of Demons. Weekly campaign. Out of the Abyss is split somewhat nicely into two halves. I have one player (Paladin) from a party that completed the first half before our group succumbed to scheduling, the true bbeg of any campaign. But we've rebuilt the party and if you'd like to join for some mid-high level Underdark demon fighting action, feel free to join us!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need a desktop or laptop computer with a microphone for communicating through Discord voice chat. You'll need an account with Discord and an account with Roll20 (both are free). New players are welcome, I just ask you do your best to understand the features of your class and race, and don't hesitate to message me before the game so we can both understand these things better.

How Nico creates a safe table

Classic DnD Virtual Table Top experience. I have progression and down time houserules that allows players to collect extra feats, ASIs, and Skills, making for complete builds that are impossible in most games. However this will be met with the use of certain stress and fear rules, and some other situations that may feel particularly gritty. Of course, you should expect a fair amount of violence, as with any DnD adventure. For this and other reasons, games can tend to be a bit gory in description. There may also be times when a survival/horror element will be evoked. As for any other type of mature themes, everything should be relatively PG. I am happy to implement any sort of toolset for players who feel they may have certain anxieties. I want my games to be as inclusive as possible and the only thing that matters is that everyone feels like a part of a team and is given the opportunity to have fun and shine in their own character/role.
