About the adventure
Across the North of Faerûn, tiny settlements hold strong against the cold mountains, dense forests, and boggy moors of the Savage Frontier. The people here are no stranger to danger, and even a giant attack would come as no surprise to the most naïve of villagers. But the giants have grown restless over the past few months as smoke rises from fire giant strongholds and hill giants rampage across the countryside. You and your adventuring companions must take up arms against the chaos - protecting villages in peril while tracking giants across the unforgiving North. Will you build glory and renown as you quell the threat against the small folk or will you be crushed under the foot of the rampage?

About me
Like many, Dungeons & Dragons was my first step into tabletop gaming, and I wish I'd come to it much earlier that I did. But since I started playing about five years ago, it's become a true passion. There's nothing like being able to put the world aside and step into a new reality of heroes, monsters, and epic adventures. I love crafting an immersive, inclusive, and intensely personalized world in my games: one focused on character development and story arcs that players will remember as much as a great book or an amazing film. And more than anything, I love riffing off player choices and taking a story in new directions that surprise even me. D&D was of course just the first step. Since then, I've taken players on epic monster hunts through Monster of the Week and helped them live their medieval fantasy through King Arthur Pendragon. And for all you David Bowie/Jim Henson fans, look no further for your next step into the Labyrinth. With regard to experience, I've been a regular DM and GM for the past three years with games both in-person and online. I host a weekly table at Hex & Co in NYC with original adventures taking place in the Forgotten Realms setting. I also have experience with new players, creating a fun and easy-going atmosphere for people just learning the game. And a little bit about my non-D&D life. I'm a fundraiser and songwriter based in NYC, where I've lived for the past 15 years. I love film, theater, food, good (and bad) wine and Teeling Whiskey, and aggressive karaoke sessions. A huge fan of horror as well as camp classics. And as much as I love Marvel, I will always be a DC guy.

Creating your character
Prior to the first game session, we'll arrange for a brief, free session zero where players can select their character and form a cohesive unit before jumping into the story. Any races, backgrounds, and subclasses from officially published Wizards of the Coast 5e source books or adventures are acceptable. I can also provide pre-designed character sheets for anyone who needs them.

Preparing for the session
For gameplay, you'll need a webcam and mic (your default phone or computer cam and mic are fine) as well as Discord, which will host our voice/video/text. I understand that some people prefer to not to use video, so if that's you, I'm totally fine with that. For most of our encounters, we'll be using Roll20, offering players the opportunity to move around on a map as they face off against giants. In addition to having a Roll20 account, please have your own method for rolling dice. For creating characters, you'll need to use D&D Beyond to create a digital character sheet. However, I will be able to share paid D&D Beyond content with you in advance to broaden your character building options. Once you have this digital character sheet, you can use it to keep track of spells, abilities, items, and gold. If you have a Player's Handbook and any other books, feel free to have them with you for reference, but they won't be necessary. And have something to take notes in case there are things you want to remember from session to session.
What Nick Luckenbaugh brings to the table
I will provide all players with paid content from D&D Beyond to create character sheets in advance. I'll also provide information about getting set up in Discord or Roll20 if you require assistance.

How Nick Luckenbaugh creates a safe table
Storm King's Thunder is a published adventure from Wizards of the Coast starting players from level 1 and taking them through level 11. At the same time, Storm King's Thunder is a sandbox of things to do, allowing players to travel across the North and explore more broadly. In addition to the story outlined in the book (which includes both a linear plot as well as many player-driven twists and turns that make the story unpredictable), I will work with players to ensure that each character's personal backstory is woven into the game to create a truly unique and tailored experience. To help ensure that every player is comfortable and having a great time as we traverse the Savage Frontier, I'll be setting lines and veils prior to the start of gameplay with each player to ensure maximum comfort. These lines and veils will inform gameplay and ensure the ability to "fade to black" whenever needed. During the session, we'll be employing X, N, and O signals in chat as needed. We'll also be ending each session with a brief Highlight Reel and Wrap Session to discuss the game session and ensure fun and engaging future sessions.
