About the adventure

The Sword Coast is under siege. Settlements are being destroyed. Towns are being raided. Fear is gripping the countryside. They all have one common cause... GIANTS! Something has disturbed the giants and now they are wreaking havoc in all corners of the Sword Coast from Icewind Dale to Daggerford, and it’s up to you and your adventuring party to figure out why and put a stop to it. But giants aren’t your only worry... the ancient enemies of giants - the DRAGONS - are concerned that a new kingdom of giants are rising up and have begun to stir... This is a fun and exciting adventure with plenty of opportunity for combat, exploration and roleplaying for both new and experienced players. This is also a great campaign for those who have played The Lost Mines of Phandelver with me, as it can lead directly into Storm King’s Thunder. Speaking of which, this adventure is very open sandbox. You can choose to focus solely follow the main quest, or take lots of time to investigate the plentiful amount of side quests and pick up more treasure and magical items. I also like to pull in some extra content to expand the adventure for those that wish to add a little something extra.

About me

My name is Phil and I would love to be your host for a night filled with lots of laughs and adventure as we explore the mighty lands of Faerun and beyond. I've had the honor of dungeon mastering one shot games at the coveted D&D In A Castle event along side some of the best dungeon masters in the world like Mark Meer, Thor Knai and Jason Charles Miller. I bring not only a lot of passion, but also I have spent many years of my youth as a stage and improv actor that I am digging deep to bring to life colorful characters to fill your adventure with. My favorite part of being a Dungeon Master is co-creating stories and creating memorable experiences together. While I am perfectly happy to lead the story-telling, the more you feel comfortable to jump in and add to the adventure, the better! That being said, if this is your first time playing, I can relate to what it's like being nervous to play (especially with strangers) and am more than happy to walk you through everything you need to know to get up and running and to meet you at your comfort level. I'll be your guide to learning the ropes and gaining confidence in the wonderful world of D&D. You can check out a sample of my dungeon mastering here: https://youtu.be/hOy8fMug9Pk?t=701 ---- As you knock on the door, the door creaks open a few inches allowing faint light to streak out of the doorway. The smell of freshly baked biscuits mixed with the aroma of coffee fills your nostrils. You push the door open your eyes are greeted by the warm, cozy fire in the corner. In the center of the room, you see a hardy wooden oak table. On top of the table are 5 mugs of steaming coffee guard the familiar sight of a battle map laced with trees, gnolls, and 5 recognizable miniatures depicting your characters. You place your satchel containing your character sheets, dice and player's handbook down beside your usual spot on the soft plush couch adjacent to the table, and as you pick up your cup of coffee to take a sip, the warm smile of Phil, your DM, greets you and welcomes you back to another adventure-filled session of Dungeons & Dragons...

Character creation

Creating your character

If you have experience creating characters, feel free to prepare one and bring it with you to the game. If you have never created a character before, I can walk you through it. We will be using D&D Beyond for character creation, so if possible, please sign up for an account prior to our first session. If you are familiar with the game and prefer to track your character on paper, feel free to do so, although it would also be appreciated if you could create a character on D&D Beyond as well for encounter tracking purposes.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To prepare for the game: 1) Please be sure to have a mic, speakers/headphones (Webcams are optional based on the group’s preferences) 2) Sign up for an account on D&D Beyond if you don’t have one already (I will send you a link to join our campaign, optional) 3) Sign up for an account on Discord if you don’t have one anyway (I will send you a link to join my Discord server) 4) If you have your own set of polyhedral dice, feel free to bring and use those. Otherwise, you can also use the virtual dice on your D&D Beyond character sheet or you can role dice using text commands on Discord) 5) If you desire, feel free to design your character's appearance using Hero Forge and then send me the link. I will then design a custom VTT token for your character to use inside of the VTT.

What Phil brings to the table

I will bring everything else that is required to run our sessions.

Safety

How Phil creates a safe table

Battles can as detailed (ie, you duck low, avoiding the incoming axe as you thrust your sword right into his gut) or as vague (ie, you attack the orc and it hits) as the group feels comfortable with. I will host a session 0 to go over the general rules and safety measures so that we keep the games as enjoyable as possible for everyone.
