If you like a proper dungeon crawl — rooms to clear, threats around every corner, and that “we have to purge this place” energy — this one-shot is a blast. Christopher is a genuinely great DM. He doesn’t just read boxed text and wait for initiative. He paints the scene so you can see it: the state of the property, what’s moving in the dark, the smell and sound of whatever’s still nesting in the walls. You always know where you are and why it feels wrong, which makes the crawl land instead of turning into a hallway of anonymous rooms. The session was super fun from start to finish. Combat and exploration felt like they belonged together, the tone stayed creepy-crawly without dragging, and the table stayed engaged because the picture of the adventure kept updating as we pushed deeper. Level 7 is a sweet spot for this kind of job — the party has tools, the property still has teeth. Would play with Christopher again in a heartbeat. If you’re looking for a one-shot that actually feels like
RPGPotomus is an excellent DM for anyone new to D&D, and I would start here if I were picking a first game on StartPlaying. He is genuinely inclusive. The table felt welcoming from the jump, questions were treated as part of the game rather than interruptions, and nobody was left behind while we figured things out. That kind of patience is rare, and it made it easy to actually play instead of worrying about “doing it wrong.” He is also a strong teacher. He walked us through character setup in a way that made the options make sense instead of dumping a rulebook on the table. Same with the virtual tabletop: he took the time to show how tokens, maps, sheets, and the usual online tools work so the tech never got in the way of the session. You leave knowing how to build a character and how to sit down at a VTT, not just that you “tried D&D once.” If you are a beginner looking for a patient, clear, inclusive table, I highly recommend him.
