About me
ConquerTheHill — TTRPG Player Profile Hey! I’m Amelia (they/them). Online you can usually find me as @ConquerTheHill. I’m a nonbinary, masculine, outdoorsy lesbian and a somatic bodywork specialist in Northwest Arkansas specializing in trauma-informed work with veterans, neurodivergent folks, trauma survivors, and complicated physical/psychological cases. My clients tell me some truly fucked-up shit while I’m elbow-deep in their ass cheeks, so it takes quite a bit to rattle me. My Scandinavian-American heritage is important to me—my grandparents immigrated from Sweden and Norway—and themes of nature, community, mortality, duty, mythology, and finding meaning in difficult circumstances tend to find their way into my characters. My first car was a 1996 Subaru Outback and my friends call me Dad, which probably tells you most of what you need to know. I also founded a small local TTRPG group in Northwest Arkansas called Bromies & Brawls. I’m not the GM; I host and function as our operations manager and community dad. I organize shit, provide the space, keep the beer fridge stocked, and naturally man the grill. How I Play I love heavy roleplay, collaborative storytelling, mystery, exploration, found family, psychological and existential themes, morally complicated decisions, and combat that actually means something. My usual archetype is something I jokingly call Demolition Dad: competent, protective characters—commanders, veterans, lawmen, survivalists—who care deeply about their people. I’m often fairly quiet while everyone talks because I’m watching the pieces move. Eventually I tend to go, “Everybody done? Cool. Here’s what we’re doing.” My characters generally use controlled, purposeful violence rather than murderhobo chaos. They’ll give someone a chance, protect civilians, and take responsibility for their decisions. But if somebody threatens the crew and the most efficient solution is a shotgun or battle axe to the head followed by Spartan-kicking somebody off a roof or cliff, I’m not spending fifteen minutes debating it. It’s an instant decision. Where My Characters Come From I draw from myself and my culture, but also from my ancestors and people I’ve encountered throughout life. I think everyone has a story, and when someone’s story sticks with me, pieces sometimes find their way into a character. I don’t recreate people; I ask, “Who does this become in this world?” For example, Sheriff Lars Björnson was partly inspired by my Swedish grandfather, a WWII paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne who later died of leukemia connected to a bad wartime blood transfusion. In Lars’s alternate history, that became a wartime transfusion that infected him with vampirism. Lars became entirely his own fictional person, but some of my grandfather’s story is quite literally in his blood. Two characters sum up my style pretty well: Commander Brösi, the Berserker Valkana — Dark Matter: An AFAB nonbinary, masculine lesbian and former military commander killed and reanimated inside a massive mechanical wolf warframe. Terrifying berserker outside; deeply caring, existentially sad Scandinavian crew dad inside. Sheriff Lars Björnson — Eat the Reich: War veteran, former Kansas City lawman, Douglas County sheriff, rancher, husband, father, hunter…and vampire. Fundamentally a servant of his community trying to reconcile the monster he could become with the good man he chooses to remain. Different universes, same core: big heart, competence, responsibility, controlled rage, decisive action. What Makes My Brain Happy My favorite games include Mass Effect, Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost Recon, Hitman, and an inexplicable amount of Police Simulator. I love existential storytelling just as much as tactical problem-solving. My bookshelves include Earth Abides, Watership Down, Kitchen Confidential, Sartre, and Camus. Movies/TV include John Wick, Vikings, Jack Ryan, Alone, BoJack Horseman, and wilderness/history documentaries like Primal Survivor and Life Below Zero. My humor balances all that existential darkness: dry, absurdist, deadpan, vaguely Midwestern. Think Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara, Corner Gas, and Letterkenny. I particularly enjoy putting something profoundly serious directly beside something unbelievably fucking stupid. Outside gaming, I backpack and camp with my dog, fly fish, travel, cook, grill and smoke food, and follow Minnesota sports. A damn good Sunday is friends at my house, a Minnesota game on TV, Hamm’s being cracked open, and too much food coming off my grill. Collaboration & Safety I love collaborating with the GM, including privately when it serves character development or creates a better payoff later. I tend to provide plenty of material—backstory, relationships, philosophy, motivations, contradictions, fears, and little character details. Those aren’t demands about where the story should go. They’re threads for you to pull. Take something I gave you, fuck with it, and surprise me. I want my character to genuinely belong to the world we’re creating together. Dark subject matter generally isn’t a line for me. Trauma, grief, violence, abuse, moral ambiguity, psychological horror, mortality, and existential themes can all make for meaningful storytelling when handled well. I especially enjoy stories that fuck with memory, identity, perception, morality, and consequences. That said, “difficult to rattle” doesn’t mean “no boundaries.” I’m happy to use the table’s safety tools, and if something unexpectedly hits differently in the moment, I’ll say so. Everyone else at the table deserves exactly that same freedom. Ultimately, I invest in characters and worlds, take notes, remember NPCs, share the spotlight, and want everybody at the table doing cool shit. I’m here to help us tell a really fucking good story. And occasionally put a shotgun or battle axe to a bad guy’s head, then kick them off a roof. ⸻ Find me: @ConquerTheHill PlayStation: svensk_fisk Current rig: An elderly PS4 that refuses to die.
