I find it hard to think of a type of player I wouldn't recommend Ian to- I've played D&D for decades, and the two campaigns he ran were among the most enjoyable, and easily the most memorable. Stories that hit world-changing heights but ultimately centered around the characters, where consequences were real but anything felt possible with good planning and a little luck. The only thing I remember him being more invested in than his world- which felt deep and moved and grew constantly in game- was the experience of the players. Combat, while not the focus of those games, always felt both challenging and meaningful to the story or understanding of the world. And, while I felt the other tags more meaningful to both my tastes and what was best about the game experience, he IS probably the best at voice acting characters- serious and silly alike- that I've ever played with.
