Going to the DMV in a Daggerheart game is really not why people play TTRPGs, but that’s exactly what this GM delivered. We were forced into endless lines, screaming NPC children, tiny-font paperwork, and stress penalties, all while being told “no, you can’t” at every turn. Even when mechanics were built into our characters, like Galapa’s highborn advantage on negotiation and use of reputation, we weren’t even allowed to roll to see what happened; it was just a straight-up no, you can't. The rogue couldn’t steal, the warrior couldn’t intimidate - nothing was possible unless it fit his rigid script. The GM himself admitted he wanted to “evoke the frustration of TSA/DMV,” and that’s exactly what we got: frustration, boredom, and zero agency. When my character finally reacted in frustration and threatened an NPC in an attempt to escape from this scenario, I was harassed via Discord many weeks later, where he complained that I had broken his immersion in a scene he had created to be annoying, because my character acted annoyed. Go Figure? And that wasn't the first time he had been rigid and confrontational, having apologized in the second session for his behavior in the first game. If you want a collaborative story where players can actually interact and shape the narrative, steer clear of this game and this GM. If you want to roleplay paperwork lines at the DMV, then this might be the GM for you.
Could not give this gem of a GM more praise. Brings a fantastic happy energy to the table that allows people to feel good and have a tonne of fun. Blends great visuals, maps and settings, with characters and voices them with great skill. He manages role play and combat that is balanced, but to be fair he rolls somewhat terribly also which is always funny. But generally has a great perspective and real story and character building chops. If you want to play with someone you will be able to instantly enjoy and rely on to make a great game, Dan is an exceptional choice
Josh is an awesome GM who knows how to bring the heart (and dagger) to the session. His worldbuilding is rich, his NPCs are memorable, and he gives players the space to explore, roleplay, and cause just the right amount of chaos. He's patient, creative, and well-versed in the Daggerheart system, and he's happy to use the "rulings over rules" approach to drive the narrative, even if it means deviating from a strict interpretation of the rules. This approach encourages a more flexible and collaborative storytelling experience Whether you're diving into emotional character arcs or pulling off ridiculous shenanigans, Josh makes it all feel meaningful and is a fun GM to play with.
Fantastic DM - great fluidity with storytelling, improv, and voices. Just did an all-around excellent job running the one-shot Daggerheart Campaign and really made everyone's actions and characters shine. Poor guy didn't have a lot of fear to work with, but still made for a great adventure and set up for the next story, which was also great. Left people wanting more.
