Just played a VTM one-shot with Bear and honestly it was truly amazing! His use of VTT really sets the mood with visuals that almost scream 90s to sound/music that he is constantly changing seamlessly to match the scene. An example of this is we enter a club and the music changes from ambience to full on club music. At one point while in the club, one of our party members has a vision and the music cuts out like we are being sucked into the vision, replaced with this eerie tone to match the visions vibe then bam right back to the club music when she snaps out of it. Its little things like that that help with immersion. Even when our one-shot started going off the rails (some masquerade breach skirting arson was involved) he was able to roll with it later admitting that we were the first to go in the direction we did in all the times he hosted this one-shot and yet despite this we as players felt like he had told this a thousand times as he never lost control or the narrative. In fact we had no clue how far off we were because how consistent and skilled his storytelling was. I was a beginner to VTM knowing a little bit about lore but zero clue on game mechanics yet without pushing me into any one direction his guidance left me feeling like a VTM veteran. I HIGHLY recommend this GM for any of your VTM needs and especially if you are a beginner or if you are someone worried about putting yourself out there... he will take care of you and respect your boundaries despite what the setting may imply... you are safe. To Bear i say this directly: "Thank you for an awesome one-shot it was really more than i could have asked for and thank you for our conversations via dms, I truly felt like playing with you was like playing with a friend i have know for years. I wish you nothing but the best brother! Noroc and Sanatate!!!"
Just had my first DnD adventure EVER. I was nervous going in as tbh i had no idea what i was doing. MisterJay was EXACTLY the GM i needed for my first time. He was knowledgeable about the rules but was always open to let me express myself... I literally killed a giant centipede by throwing my disembodied eyeball at it lolol! This was the most fun i've had in ages and i highly recommend playing with him. To all the newbies that care currently "secretly" checking out the comments of different GMs... i took the plunge for you and this guy is what you want. I absolutely plan on joining his games again. I know that you more experienced players may think what basis for comparison do i have, this was my first game... and you would be correct but to that i say, this GM made me want to play again... not an oh this was fun for a one time thing and never again, no, i actually want to play more DnD. To me his game felt like i was playing DnD with my friends, like i we had known eachother for years. I can't thank him enough for the experience! UPDATE!!!! So I have the distinct pleasure of playing a campaign with MisterJay. We are quite a few sessions in, leveled up a few times. I gotta say that he's delivering even more than i expected based on my time with in in our one-shot. We play every couple of weeks and every session is a banger. He is EXTREMELY knowledgeable on the rules but despite this he doesn't make you feel bad when you don't understand something ALWAYS taking the time to explain things to players without making us feel dumb. I tend to be a little aggressive when challenging rules and yet not once has this triggered him as he always stays chill and calmly explains the how's and whys of my challenge (i also apologize at the end of games if for may aggressive challenge as it actually is not cool of me ...). Despite all this he is also not shy about admitting a mistake if one is made. This is really an amazing trait because it really builds trust with us the players. But this expert knowledge of the rules is also not so set in stone that he is unwilling to let things slide either because its really cool or the consequences are just hilarious in some cases. He always makes sure that ALL players get their moments in and is great at just letting us like go... even if that sometimes means we are stepping into something thats bad news lol. What i think he is especially great at is communication outside of the play session. Whether its about answering questions or even offering post game suggestions. So instead of telling us what to do during gameplay, or trying to influence us in any direction, we are free to what we want but after the game he may offer a suggestion for example... in one session our party asked a single question to a single npc and we were off to our next destination where we basically fought for our lives lol... at the end of that session, having survived the attack, he offered an observation that much of what we encountered, we could have been better prepared for if in the previous session we had simply taken the time to talk to more than a single npc.... he rewards this kind of RP exploration. This is cool of him because he basically is able to help us without actually influencing us in game. I know this review is already running long but i cannot stress enough how much i am enjoying my time in his narrative. I love how he GMs, and you really get the sense of how much he enjoys it himself, constantly trying to improve and learn. "Jay, thank you for your time, patience and the fun you inject into our time during our sessions. Cheers to you."
