I stepped away from this GM’s game, and I want to give an honest explanation of why. There were a few ongoing dynamics that made the table uncomfortable for me. The biggest issue was the amount of personal, heavy real-life topics that were brought into the sessions. There was frequent discussion of family matters and other serious issues. I empathize with anyone going through difficult times, but for me it shifted the tone of the game and created an emotional tension I wasn’t prepared for. It put me in an awkward position of navigating conversations I didn’t sign up for when what I wanted was an escape and a game. I also struggled with the way one particular player was treated. It didn’t come across as friendly banter; It seemed personal, it directly affected game-play, and it was uncomfortable for me. During a festival minigame, most players who rolled above a 20 were given clean successes, and even one who rolled an 16 or so (18? I don't remember) succeeded but "barely". But this player rolled a 24 and was given a mixed success without explanation until prodded by me. Later, when he asked if he could try to catch a butterfly; something totally in line with his character; the only response was “you fail,” with no roll offered. That gave the table a strange, uneven feeling that made it harder for me to stay engaged; and did not motivate me to build a relationship. Overall, the combination of personal oversharing, family involvement during sessions, and uneven treatment of players made the environment feel tense and not fun for me. I wish the GM well, but the game just wasn’t a good fit for what I’m looking for.

Fantastic GM. Flawlessly incorporates your roleplay into the dynamic environment while keeping things focused. Plants has a unique way of giving every character difficult choices. The choices they make help define them in ways that are impactful, clear, and tangible. Slow paced if that's your jam. You can tell Plants puts a lot of work and care into your game.
