Nick had every player give them an in-depth backstory for their character, and they were able to incorporate every aspect of those backgrounds into the overall story of the game AND the broader mythos of their original universe of Solero. No detail was unimportant; many NPC characters would grow with the player characters, and were met with cheers upon their recurrence; the mood was set perfectly with interesting descriptions and visual aids over Discord; each of us players felt special as our character arcs were acknowledged and developed; story beats were interestingly timed; GM was able to adapt story for each session as some players had to bow out over time, or had to be in and out. I got emotional by the end of the story.
