On StartPlaying, it's easy to find DMs who are knowledgeable about D&D's rules. Sophie is no exception; however, she surpasses most other Dms in terms of her ability to craft a narrative. Her games are exceptionally well-paced, and the focus between the players is better shared than at any other table I've played at. In addition, Sophie has a terrific understanding of the themes of the modules she runs, so recurring symbols, a consistent tone, and intriguing character dynamics can be expected in her games. One of my favourite narrative beats she included is having a character roll a wisdom saving throw in the middle of dialogue, without our characters being any the wiser that something nefarious was happening. Alfred Hitchcock famously said in his "bomb under the table" analogy that a scene is far more suspenseful if the audience is aware of something, whereas the characters are not. As such, Sophie demonstrates a clear understanding in creative writing to employ such a technique. Narrative irony is just one of the many storytelling techniques she uses to captivate her players, as her great voice acting and character-building skills also immerse the players in her games.
