This campaign (Royal Revolution) was not quite what I expected from the description. From the amount of background information, I was expecting something roleplay / strategy heavy. Instead, this is a very well designed and executed linear campaign, with lots of quirky characters and interesting set-piece encounters. If you like a campaign where the roleplay is mainly for flavor, and the combats are central but varied, this is definitely a fun experience.
I've been playing Zak's variant Dragon of Icespire Peak game for several months now. This is an episodic, combat-focused adventure, where Zak has done a fantastic job of encouraging creative role-play and character building in between well-designed set piece battles. Our group has a mix of experience, and Zak has given everyone time in the spotlight. Most importantly for online play with strangers - this kind of happens in the background, but you'll really notice it when it doesn't happen - Zak has provided an experience of a core group of people reliably getting together to have fun.
I played with Mars for an approx 4 months hybrid campaign (message board + live sessions). The particular system and setting we were using was "Blades in the Dark". Throughout the campaign, Mars was an incredibly flexible GM, juggling different player styles, levels of commitment, time zones and interests to sustain a positive experience for the whole group. Mars is also a good storyteller, creating interesting characters and situations, as well as adapting the story to the actions and intentions of the players. If you're into soundscapes, music and voice acting, this might not be the GM for you (unless he has hidden talents I haven't seen yet), but if you like good writing with constant hooks and hints that there is more to the world waiting just out of view, maybe give Mars a try.
