Having played in Darren’s game twice-weekly for about 7 months, I highly recommend him for several reasons: Reliability: Darren has never had to cancel a session for his own reasons. And he will play so long as there are three players. This is an under appreciated trait by many, as I have encountered many other GMs (paid and free) who for one reason or another often need to cancel sessions. Technical skills: Darren is a master at using Foundry’s full potential, with animations, spell effects, sounds, and automations. When there is a problem, Darren usually knows how to fix it quickly. If you like those things (as I do!), I doubt you will find anyone better. Friendliness/Community: Darren is very friendly and provides an inclusive welcoming community. He has always been willing to answer questions outside of gaming hours, whether about my character, the campaign, or even help in me trying (though not completely successful on my end) to replicate the same Foundry skills he has for my own game. Also, when a player is not a good fit because of disruptive behavior or attitude, Darren acts decisively and fairly. For me, it is a big deal that Darren is not going to subject his community to unwelcome behavior or something that may negatively affect the game for the short term gain of a bit more money. Also, while Darren knows the rules very well, if he makes a mistake (as we all do), he has no problem acknowledging it and rectifying it as necessary. Pacing: Darren’s extensive experience gives him really good insight into how written adventures translate into actual play, including what parts end up being fun and what parts end up being a drag, and he modifies accordingly. I really enjoy exploration, combat, and skill challenges, as does Darren, so he works hard to keep the adventure moving at a pace where it feels like every session we accomplish a lot. If you are looking for extensive role playing such as 30 minute conversations with every NPC you meet, a tavern with 20 people to chat the night away, or role playing shopping and getting a bed and a meal for the night, Darren is probably not the best GM for you. But if you want a bit of role playing alongside a steady pace of exploration and combat (as I do), Darren does that very well. All in all I heavily recommend Darren!
